Rattling under hard acceleration (I think it's mounts, but which?)

  FormulaFord Ecoboost
Hi guys,

I'm new to the world of Clio ownership and I've done quite a bit of searching and I realise this is one of those questions that gets asked a lot so forgive me.

I have a KTR Stealth Exhaust which is addictive but when I accelerate hard and then come off the throttle I can hear a rattle. It's hard to describe but it's almost like the rattle you get when your ABS kicks in (judders?). Also if I accelerate mode sedately to around 4k revs then it becomes a bit more rattley but quietens down over 4k revs.

So I think that the 4k rattle is the heat shield coming loose and I'm pretty sure that the rattle when accelerating/decelerating is one of the mounts. Just unsure which one?

I mentioned the exhaust because I did wonder it first whether the exhaust hangers had gone and was wondering if the hanger was the same for aftermarket exhausts?

Thanks for your help

could be but...i was told mine was a heat sheild then up on the ramps it was a collapsed cat or silencer then it blew so i got it welded and patched then new rubber in the exhaust hanger and one of these has totally sorted it

I've had a good look under the car this weekend and I still can't work out what the problem might be.

Strangley since changing the oil the car runs a lot smoother, quieter and with less rattles. It's less lumpy when cold which probably helps. but when you really nail it (when warmed up of course) it's rattles when accelerating and on overun, but now only when I really floor it.

When under the car, I checked the entire length of the exhaust and there was only marginal movement (which I'd expect) and all the mounts were fine. I checked the heat shield (gave it a good wiggle) and there was nothing loose. The only thing I did notice that the dogbone engine mount had a bit of play in it (I could wiggle it by hand whilst underneath). Could it therefore be this (or other mounts) that are the problem?

Sounds similar to the rattle mine has developed. I think its the mani hitting the subframe. Ive got a powerflex kit for the dogbone to try and sort it

The powerflex kit was also a consideration. Please let me know how you get on and whether it sorts the problem for you

hi, got the same issue as well on my 182, it's between 3.5-4k on acceleration and on over run, it's not the fuel guard rail as that fell off lol! doesn't look like heatshielf or the system hitting anything but it sounds like it's in my passanger footwell but when you listen to it outside the car it sounds like it's at the back.

I have this! One of the bolts that holds the heat shield has rusted away so it rattles on one side. Would I die if I remove my heat shield?

Thanks for the cuntish answers in advance.

I have a standard exhaust on mine and the heatshield rattles after you let the power off, (probably rattles the whole time but i only hear it when going slow) I noticed this even more so when I installed a sub into the car, on certain bass frequencies the thin heat shield over the back boxes rattles quite badly, I resolved this problem by getting some 5mm thick rubber plumbing washers and putting them between the shield and the car and really tightening the bolts up, only cost £2 to fix and all you need is an 8mm spanner iirc

the center sections on the stealth can sometimes fail.. get it up on the ramps, rev the car a little and push up on the center silencer with a screwdriver :)
