First job was to replace the rusty exhaust with a stainless system and decat. Didn't fit very well but local exhaust place did a good job. Sounds loud but I love it

Belts were due so took car to AWMotorworks for full belt dephaser etc. Whilst there had 421 Catcams fitted and car mapped by Engine Dynamics. Very happy with the result. Big bill but transformed the car.

16th Dec was cars second trackday back at Brands and weather was typical December. Ran the Pilot Sport all day and managed well over 70laps a lot of fun and only 1 very minor off managed to keep it out of the gravel tho so no damage. These cars really love the track

Future plans
Lsd of some sort. Really struggles to put the power down especially in the wet and I'll be having a new clutch soon anyway.
Engine mods either rs2 inlet or maybe throttle bodies really want to stick to n/a as love the way the car is especially on track just always crave a little more power
Upgrade to coilovers looking at bc or gaz gold
Possible half cage and a set of corbeau pro race xl seats
Flocked dash top
Better exhaust system, prob pure motorsport as had that on my 172 and loved it
General Tidy up of dents Marks etc

Started removing the rear in preparation for a rear cage. Need to order one this week. Torn between Safety Devices and Fulcrum. Both offer rear cages made ready for front to be added. Not that I can see me going for a full cage but the options always old I guess. Looks like I'll be ordering Mirco RTS Seats today. Really wanted Corbeau Pro but just can't justify extra 200 per seat.

Good progress mate, have you ordered a cage? Some of them have a few months lead time...
No. Safety Devices are quoting September. Fulcrum and JP Cages are only a couple of weeks. Just can't decide which to go for need to make a decision today. Mind was set on fulcrum but they require weld in box sections which seems a bit more complicated to install

What is the difference in cages between the Fulcrum, JP and Safety Devices?

Also never seen those seat before. They look comfy!

Not much rear cages all 525 to 600 delivered in any colour
Safety devices bolt in with option to add front cage later
Fulcrum weld in box section feet then cage Bolts to that and option to add front later
JP cages bolt in but rear cage only

Correct me if im wrong (havent googled it) but i thought the SD cages also require welded box sections. And in any case really any cage should have welded in spreader plates regardless..

When I say bolt in they're spreader plates that you can weld of you want which I would

Ah ok.. Well in that case then because Fulcrum mocks all his cages exactly the same, The supplied box sections are also mocked up ready to be welded straight in.. literally place onto wheel arches and floor sections ( may need very slight trimming) and weld up..

That's the issue finding someone locally to fit as he is 5 hours away from me. Finding someone who isn't really expensive yet decent and not a million miles away isn't easy and to be honest as its my first ever cage im not sure what a sensible price to fit it should be, fulcrum recommend someone this way still 2 hours away and they said 175 which doesn't sound bad. With a bolt in spreader plate one I could fit the cage then drive somewhere for someone to weld the spreader plates. Fulcrum cages do look very good tho and was top of my list with Safety Device's

Lol.. This is sounding like im Fulcrum.. Well i know this is gonna sound ridiculous and i suppose its because Tom is fitting his own cages, but i literally ordered my specific cage over the phone, Tom made it, i then went to his place. Without even test fitting the cage into my car, he set about placing the box sections into my car (he has specific measurements at specific points that he measured from) welded them all up and then Bingo the cage goes in and bolted up.. The box sections he supplies are all Lazer cut out for him and they literally are as good as perfect fit..

I think what im trying to explain/say is that you could measure up/mock up with the boxes, mark out on your car where they have to be welded into get them welded in wherever and done.. The other option is bolt the boxes onto the cage pre welding, drive to where ever, The middle floor boxes only go in 1 place so its just the arches that need marking up, Tack weld the boxes to the car, un bolt cage, weld up completely, and bolt back in and go home..

I'm a big fan of his cages they look amazing never seen a bad comment about his work on any forum and if he was close enough I'd be there already. I just worry about the quality of the welding on fitting as that's where the strength will be esp as harness will be run of the cage.

I haven't got the luxury of a trailer at present so I'd have to drive the Clio. With arthritis in my left ankle I haven't driven a manual that far for a long time. The Clio is just a toy that gets used at weekends and the odd trackday
