RB 182 FF > 182 Trophy

Had this on my mind a while now so i'm starting this thread seeking a bit of advice...Im seriously considering selling the RB and getting a Trophy. I can't however tell you why!? I seriously have no idea why I am tempted by them? Is this seriously an upgrade or more of a side step? My 182 has (although not yet fitted) coilovers, roll cage, bimarco futura fixed bucket and yozzasport system. I would transfer the exhaust but sell the rest...

I'm also looking into getting a DC5 Sep next year when i turn 21 - BUT would like to experiance the Trophy just because of it being a true drivers car.

So.. Is the trophy good enough to warrent selling my car/mods and raising extra funds for the car/insurance? OR is it more of a side step? Should I keep my RB and wait while next Sep for the DC5? I would love to test drive a trophy but only being 20 it causes a few issues with dealerships etc.

Would just like some advice off people who have driven both?

(PS i have done a search in clio discussion but couldn't find anything).
/Luke.

I will help in terms of driving- ( & I would have posted whoever opened the thread-)

The driving + Handling on a trophy is leagues above a standard CUPPED suspension 182-
Plus the comfort of the Recaros is great-

You could just keep the car & uprate your suspension- but its probably not going to be the same....

Trophy will hold its value better than a RB 182 until next Sept...

Yeh Steve thats true... My RB is currently on 55k aswell so Sep next year it will be on about 65k at a guess. If its leagues above the std cup suspention id love it as I already think that suspention is pretty much spot on.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Trophy is epic to drive mate - you've got my offer and I'd really love it to go to someone who will enjoy it and appreciate it as you will.

My 182 was nothing on it.

i reckon do it if you want to tick the box, but for the additional money i reckon it wont be worth it. After about a week the novelty will wear off.

b****cks, TBH.

The tomato puts a colossal grin on my face every time I go out in it - the suspension is phenomenal and the car sounds and goes fantastic...

The ability to carry epic speed over difficult roads. Rides well, stunning control at speed.

No offence intended, but nonsense!

I'm not offended its OK :)

It depends on the reason he wants it, and he has stated he's not sure. If its for the novelty factor, the rarity, or because it looks nicer, that will wear off. It always does.

Financially it makes no sense. You are pretty much going to pay a premium, and i can see that someone above has stated the trophy will hold its value better - the point being you've had to pay out to gain the more sought after car, which is still going to depreciate a tiny bit anyway, so you are loosing out twice.

If you do track days or drive around all country roads on the limit because you have to be somewhere a few seconds faster, then yes it would make sence.

Lets face it, most of us buy cars because we just like them. If this is the case, then he should but it. If he's looking for a practical reason to buy on - there isnt one!!

It is pretty good - it's a tad bouncy on long journeys but on a blast it's so capable.

I actually think the 182's more fun on track, but the trophy's better on the road.

I just got a Trophy and really sceptical about it's performance differences coming from a 172 and honestly it's AMAZING. I love it, the way it goes round corners makes me laugh, it's honestly brilliant. I think it's amazing and can't see me selling for a very long time.

Warren, I have bought the KTR coilovers. I know you will sigh but after speeking to Schweppy he really rated them on his ph1 track car so I thought i would take a punt on them. Thanks for all the replies guys - got a lot to think about now :(

Luke you jewish jew! You don't half make me laugh, almost as bad as me with cars!

Personally I'd go for it. Was planning to do it myself but wanted a little less money stashed away in a car. If you can afford it go for it.
Just remember the lack of xenons!

See Mike_182's progress thread mate... Arguably the most perfect trophy there is ( with xenons & 182 rear bench etc. BTB Exhaust & a very tempting price...) And yes im bad with cars :( I dont think il ever be happy with what i have got.

^ how much you want for yours?
Interested in a px for a DC2?!

Aimed at Mike.

I knwo what you mean Luke. Still regret selling my 182 though, best car I'll ever own I reckon.

I'm after £8.5k with the BTB and all the dents sorted and whatnot, but for forum users who have these contacts anyway, £7,750 would do me.

Bearing in mind I paid £7,500 for it a couple of months ago (tops!) and subsequently spent nearly £3,000 to get it perfect...

Lol!

The dealer made me an equally stupid offer. It's the only time I've ever been rude to someone over the phone.

Hmm, out of my price range at the minute, but might buy it just to piss Luke off....whats your paypal Mike?!

Seriously Luke I would get one, nice peices of kit, a bit of rarity, will sell on easily enough. Prices are jumping up a bit too so residuals should be good.

Your best bet is try to and find someone nearby with a Trophy and go out for a spin. Everyone has their own opinions as to what they like.

However, when I test drove my Trophy, I also tested a FF182 and did notice a substantial difference to push me towards the T.

LOL I need to go out in one first. I also need to try and sell all these bits i have bought for my car without making too much of a loss!

Meh, far too much of a side step imo. Yes the suspension is superb, but its basically a 182 Cup. Drivetrain is no different to yours, so 99% of the time will feel the same.

When i sold my 172 Cup for my 182, wish i hadn't bothered tbh, they feel too similar. Should have just kept the 172, then bought the 197

Get a train down to Warwick, I'll take you out round Leamington and get you in bed with some college slit and in the morning I'll take you out round the back roads...

Just not true! I can't explain it, but the trophy felt special every time I drove it.
The ktr coilovers might be good for the price. But they won't touch the sachs all round. Do it. Mikes is one of the best in the country given the recent work that's been done. Added bonus is that you'll lose less on the trophy than the 182.
