Re-aligning my tracking

If I go in a straight line i need to have a slight turn to the right on the steering wheel.

I assume therefore that my tracking is out or something. Any idea how much this costs? Anywhere recommended (in Birmingham)? Will Kwik-fit do a good job for £25ish?

if it's only slight, chances are it's normal as cars with sensitive front ends (like the RS Clio!) will follow the camber of the road, which is to the nearside for drainage

I considered that (and you're probably right) but I just want to make absolutely sure.

Most Tyre places will be able to do it for you.... I'd find somehwere that isn't Kwik-Fit though as most of the time they are Complete Monkeys

Wouldnt bother with kwik fit either to be fair.

There are much better places to be found if u search around a little bit

F1 Autocentre is a good one, there used to be one by the hawthrowns but its a screwfix direct now.
 
a lot of places will rig it up and check it for free, only charging you if it needs adjusting

where abouts are you? Protyre are very good but they're largely only in the South of the country (about £25 to adjust)

Me personally, i'd steer clear of Kwik-fit style places. Full of no-marks that are just there to earn basic wage.

Go to somewhere like Pro-Tyre or like that. An alloy wheel specialist 9 times out of ten is staffed by car enthusiasts who have a genuine interest in cars and their workmanship.

Just my 2p's worth.

go to somewhere with 4 wheel laser alignment, its the best equipment and they charge no more than people using the old gauges.

the hunter i used was something like 15-20k, ramp was sunk into the ground to get on lowered cars, full front and rear moving plates, and it had regular updates and calibration.. there were also 3 monitors so customers could watch in the office or forecourt.

the supertraker of old cost bugger all, you cant see what there doing, they can tell you its out even if it was in and you'd never know.. theres a code for that at kwik t1t etc called an RTS - rattle the spanner, where you do just that and charge for clunking it about..

Take it to Demon Tweeks, they'll do a full geo set up (have some proper tick new equipment). Not too dear either, then go for North Wales run.

They're opposite Aston Science Park. You turn into where Fletchers is and its the first left. 2 wheel tracking was around a tenner and 4 wheel tracking was around 20 quid. That was a couple of years ago.

Would avoid Kwik-fit. They'll happily take your car for a drive to *diagnose the problem.


*diagnose = thrash the f&%^ outta your car

Cheers mate, I'll give them a go. DT are without a doubt a worth a visit, but only if I'm going for a blast into North Wales after...which I won't be this time of year.
