Re-Map!!! Good or Bad???

Well next weekend my car is going to JMS for a 48,000 mile service and stage 1 re-map which I cant wait as my car is feeling a little sluggish at the mo. However I do hear good comments about re-mapping of engines what with power gains and increased fuel efficiency but does anyone have any bad experiences from re-mapping vehicles just so I can get a bigger picture.

They are pretty safe. Not heard any bad stories from re-maps.

I had mine remapped. It doesn't make a big difference to power, just better throttle response and and a bit more pull lower down the rev range. Depends on the map, of course.

A mechanic was warning me this week not to do it because hes seen someone blow their engine up lol. He`d have to be pretty stupid to do that unless he had a twitch in his right foot lol

A mechanic forgot to do my engine mounts up once.

remaps, like the rstuner- JMS one are safe and for the money a good mod!

plus was gutted and suprised to learn that most 182`s dont actually achieve 182 bhp after I RR`d my bog standard clio.

well my engine nearly ripped itself out and broke part of the mount off!

moral of the story is: some mechanics know f**k all!

Never heard of a 1*2 engine blowing up due to a re-map. However i have heard of audi S3's and focus ST's mapped 300+ bhp blowing pipes off etc.
Think if you have a turbo car and map it to some stupid bhp and dont uprate engine components then its quite possible you could have issues.
Think they are a safe bet in a clio though:approve:.
Had mine done in my old 182 for 2 yrs and now in my Trophy for 1.5yrs and havent had any issues yet.

Had a remap done @ JMS a couple of weeks agao, totally transformed the car!!!

I had my 197 live mapped with an ITG filter and I can outdrag standard rs's just slightly, throttle response is improved too!

whatever this mechanic had to say I`m going for it, cant wait when the car is done next saturday afternoon. Whatever next??? might lower the little range rover after that lol
