re-map ...yes or no?

Has anyone had their ECU re-mapped on their 182??

Ive heard stories of how it can cause excessive stress on the engine and gearbox, plus I've also heard some places do better jobs than others??

Is it worth it? Can you tell the difference?? Any other ways I can improve the performance without emptying my bank??

My mate had a re-map on his corsa GSI.. Was awesome, improved response and top end, acceleration had improved aswell.. Id stil do a bit of research into though buddy, dont just get any place to do it..

It won't make it a great deal faster, but should improve the overall power. IE smooth out any dips in torque over the rev range.

For the money it's not really worth it on an NA petrol (maybe if you've had intake/exhaust work).

Stress on the gearbox is your driving style unless your car's making big power.

it will only put stress on the engine if your raise the limiter a stupid amount

i went to rstuning for mine and the extra pick up was very noticable with my modifications :D

i only raised the limiter a tiny bit as its pointless going too high as peak power is reached before the limiter anyway

the 197 we did yesterday made 9hp and 12lbft. 172's can be between 5 and 10hp and usually 10-15lbft.

I would not bother unless I had some mods to time in.

When if i get some cams and head work I then believe it vital to get the very best out of the car but otherwise I would prefer to spend the money on other things.

Remaps that I have seen seem to be circa £400 so not exactly cheap, and in the future you need to have it done again if you bought more mod's so i would wait.

Surprised you can get 10hp out of a standard car. I was under the impression that most on here have struggled to get 10hp from matched inlets, decat, and an induction kit.

I have angel works matched intlets, RStuning remap, full exhaust system and pipercross panel filter and there is a difference in torque, power curve and peack out put.

Dont expect big gains but expect to notice a difference if not just increased torque was nice (dont have to drop it down a gear as much).

If you have the spare cash go for it.
