get some one else on your insurance and see what happens

im not talking main driver

All i can say is shop around, premiums vary a stupid amount though to be honest your quote seems quite fair. Ask them how much security options will affect your premium. The fact is though is your 20 and have a fast car, theres no getting around that, insurance companies dont want you!

Who was that quote through? Waiting till your 21 will make no difference whatsoever most insurance companies make 19 and 25 the ages where the biggest change is made.

What were you playing before? Try Tesco and Direct Line they are the cheapest for me though their exesses are very high!!

any others? i know some people were talkin bout some great quotes at the end of 2002 on their cups! and 172s!

  Megane 225 baby! :)

Have you called the insurance company that is now meant to give discount to Cliosport members??? Got to be worth a shot!

About to get a 172 so been looking at quotes. Im currently with tesco but they want £700. Elephant.co.uk only want £500.

I have got 12 years no claims mind you.

Get it registered in your mums name a become a named driver.

Thats what I did with my second car (SRi 130), and continued to insure my fester popular to build the no claims up.

Whats the advantage of me being fully comp as the sole driver instead of being on my mums/dads insurance, am i wasting my money?

http://www.tesco.comwww.tesco.com. Before I turned 21 last week wouldnt give me a quote on a 172 or CUP. With 3 points/One partial Blame Claim and 2yrs no claims £1700.(CUP) Not bad I thnk!!!!(£1600 on a 172)

I think that if you take out your own insurance, you will build up your own no claims discount, but being a named driver on your parents insurance will mean that if you take out insurance in your own name, you will have zero no claims discount.

Possibly doing this for a few years, until the age of say 25, might mean that the insurance will be much less for that age group, when you take out insurance in your name, even without any no claims bonus.

Correct me if I am wrong!

Try Norwich Union Direct http://www.norwichuniondirect.co.ukwww.norwichuniondirect.co.uk they are pretty good. Often you have to play one insurance company off against another. My husbands renewal arrived recently for his Beemer, so he tried a couple of different companies who quoted slightly cheaper. He then phoned up Norwich Union, who were his existing insurers and told them he had found cheaper quotes, and without him asking, they promptly knocked off £100 just to keep his custom.

Good result! Try it, as there is so much competition out there who all want our custom.

Dannyboy - go to the members section the details of the insurance are in there I believe - but give them a try, some feedback to Geoff would be good if you get a quote too.

Quoteline Direct found my last insurers. Very cheap, as they often allow extra years no claims, but there were some really dodgy clauses like no theft cover if not from your garage.

Im with Halifax now. By far the cheapest and with the lowest excesses.

Danny thats serious money - Insurers tend only to consider cheaper premiums when u are in your 26th year and that with having a number of No claims bonus years under your belt! Maybe u should consider a smaller engine for the moment! Its a lot of car for being 20 after all! Im 27 in march and mines is still £750 which I reckon is alot! Good luck anyways

I rang about 15 insurance Cos in dec and Norwich Union Direct were the cheapest by far £45 per month fully comp, No claims discount prot, legal cover, etc. Oh yes and !120 excess !!!

halifax are part of ESURE.. very good insurance company... think i was quoted £630.. fully comp + windscreen cover. (im 22 with 1.8 clio 16v)

i was very happy!! no hassles with documents not being sent out etc.. customer services are also very polite.

esure all the way baby....

I am 23 and I have had quote of 1200 on a cup - garaged, 1 non-fault claim I didnt think that was too bad (although Im still sticking with my 1.2 for a while)

Shame I lost my NCB after a lorry spilt rocks onto my car

anyone tried Renault Insurance? Im with them but only cos its free :)

Sounds mad !!! but renault insure gave me the best quote im 21 and they quoted me £1200 with my G/F on there too shes 20 i have 1yrs no claims !

Oh that was on a new Clio Cup straight out the wrapper!

Before that it was adrian Flux they were great on my valver! i was 19 and i paid £800 third party with the misses!! (adrian flux take into account previous performance cars too)

hope it helps ..if you want the numbers then just Pm me m8

To be honest theres no point everyone posting how much they pay as the chance as someone having the same details (ie age, postcode, personal details etc etc) is highy unlikely. To get the best quote you really need to spend 1 whole day ringing around EVERYONE, and i do mean loads! Once youve got the cheapest, get the ref + persons name + find out what Insurance company underwrites it. Go back to the next 4/5 competetive people and tell them u have a cheaper quote (if u got quoted 1400 say 1300) and tell them what Company it is (most Brokers use the same cos you see). Ask about increasing your voluntary excess + limited mileage.

Another tip is to come accross as respectable, have an educated chat with the guy on the phone-if you come accorss as a tool they wont wont to help you, be honest and polite.

They really can knock stupid amounts of money off; especially the larger brokers if u pester them, keep at it and youll come out on top.

Paddy I think youve said it all. Sadly theres just no getting round the equation:

young driver + fast car = crash + big insurance payouts

If I were running an insurance company Id only ever insure 25-50 year old men. BMW drivers would pay a £1000 excess.

Yeah, at the end of the dayits the risk involved.

Unfortunately its a fact that fast car + young driver = claim. Oh i forgot to say, theres no point going named driver on a parents policy as they calculate premiums from the highest rated driver, thatll be you then! Youre better off biting the bullett for a few years and coughing up, at least then youll have ncd. When i first tried to insure my Saxo I rang about 50 companies (i blag u not), in the end i got sorted.

Best of luck pal!

What about the "much safer, less accidents women drivers" ? Would they not get insured with you??!!

;)

Try the Insurance Factory 0870 777 8181, got a 1.8 16v, 1 yrs no claims, 1 fault accident, aged 19, £1400TPFT on my own policy, cheapest by 1K!!!!

Once again, thank you every body! there will be prob be a huge thankyou post in a few weeks! i know its gonna be expensive and it will make me skint for a few months, but hey.....its defo worthit! as was the valver when that stung me!

i suppose its not as bad as when i had to swap insurance over half way through when i first got the cup! they took 900 out of my wallet on top of the 1500 i had already paid for my valver premium! hmmm 16valver tptf to 172 cup fully comp! half way through year so didnt have a choice! :( Ill be triumphant this time!!!!

Tell you what though,

I had an identical quote (literally just changed the car model) and the insurance jumped to £2200 a month - so that was an extra grand although it was for a 51 S2000 so it could be worse. BUT that hasnt put me off - I still want an S2000 :D even If i have to wait a few years to get one

GR, Figures show that men and women have almost identical number of accidents........but, when blokes do it they do it properly!! Although the frequency is the same, severity is much worse for blokes, hence higher insurance.... now where did I put me Lipstick?!?!;)
