Did you manage to sort out the caliper carrier bolts?Hi All,
Does anyone know what the bolts are that connect the carrier to caliper?
I may have stripped the thread in the calliper and I want to make sure I get the right thread pitch to repair it
Thank you
They're the 2 bolts that go in here. Not the 2 bolts that bolt the caliper to the hub. They're a special bolt from Renault. See this thread here - https://cliosport.net/threads/nuts-and-bolts.814078/#post-11524905
The bolt shank (the unthreaded part) is designed to work with the anti-rotation plate so it aligns properly.
Like Scott, I ended up reusing my old ones.
Ah sorry, my bad. They're the 2 bolts that go in here. Not the 2 bolts that bolt the caliper to the hub.
Looking on that list from the link you posted it doesn't show any of those bolts. They're about 25mm long.View attachment 1702638
VIS DI=12 L0=25 |
If you could check it would be much appreciated.Ah sorry, my bad.
Part number - 7701025057
From the parts catalogue
VIS DI=12 L0=25
“VIS" is French for bolt or screw. "DI" stands for diameter, so DI=12 means the bolt has a 12 mm diameter. "L0" stands for length, so L0=25 means the bolt is 25 mm long.
There’s no specific information about the pitch, but I’d guess it’s a coarse thread with a pitch of 1.75 mm, which is standard for an M12 bolt. If the pitch were different, it would usually be specified.
Do you have a tap and die set? You could try a few taps to determine the pitch. I’ll have mine at the house tomorrow, so I can check a bolt for you if you haven’t figured it out by then.
Let me know if you need any more help!
Definitely won’t be 1.25 pitch. The material is too soft. 1.75 is the standard and always used on soft materials as the threads are deeper and more robust. If you could check it would be much appreciated.
I ran a M12 x 1.25 die down a couple of the bolts just to clean them up but it removed a bit of material so I stopped. They are a fine thread. I'll be surprised if they're a 1.75 pitch. I've read a bit about the bolts, there's not much info to be honest but some people said they are 1.25 pitch which they obviously aren't.
The place I went to today is a well known tool distributor that sells more or less every nut and bolt under the sun and even they were baffled and couldn't help.
It was just the first few threads 🤞Definitely won’t be 1.25 pitch. The material is too soft. 1.75 is the standard and always used on soft materials as the threads are deeper and more robust.
Hopefully the die hasn’t damaged the threads 🤞🏻
Cheers mate 👍 I've ordered a thread pitch gauge. It should arrive today.I removed the bolt for you and was surprised to find that the thread pitch was 1.5 mm instead of the standard 1.75 mm for a typical M12 hex bolt.

It's worth noting that my calipers are not the original ones but an aftermarket equivalent from Febi Bilstein.

It's possible the original bolts are M12 x 25 mm x 1.75 mm. Otherwise, the different pitch would be noted in the bolt's technical details. At least we've ruled out the 1.25 mm pitch. Bolts are inexpensive, so it won't hurt to buy both thread types.
Just to confirm what you told me.I removed the bolt for you and was surprised to find that the thread pitch was 1.5 mm instead of the standard 1.75 mm for a typical M12 hex bolt.

Result! 😃Just to confirm what you told me.
