I am curently looking for rear disc brake conversion for my prefaclifed clio 1.4 16v as it is running on rear drum brake and wonder if any expert here can teach how about getting my conversion done.
someone on here has already done the rear disc conversion. im sure it wasnt too much work. im planning it on mine in the next year. it will go really nice with bigger front brakes aswell.
In my opinion its a waste of money for something that is not needed in a 1.2 the disks do a good enough job they dont look as good but my rear pads are down to 80% and the front pads down to nothing so it shows yoiu the rear brakes do very little work in stopping the car.
I think its a loot of work as well
The old 1.6 16V use disks I belive as well as the 172/cup
brakes work on an average ratio of fronts 60%,rears 40% as a general rule although road conditions, vehicle load and speed all change this ratio.to convert the rear you just need a 172 rear axle although the cost might mean its not really worth it.
Thanks guys for e advise.Given the amount of money i have to spend, I must really think twice before embarking on this conversion. Anyway where can i get a new/used 172 rear axle and rear brake system and how does tweaking of the rear ABS be carry out?
Why are you wanting rear discs? If all you are after is more braking power then the best/cheapest thing to do is fit the big brake kit from K-tec which is £175+vat and a set of braided brake hoses. I have the K-tec kit on mine (http://www.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/brake302.jpgwww.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/brake302.jpg http://www.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/brake303.jpgwww.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/brake303.jpg) and the difference from the standard brakes is amazing.
If your after it for looks then you should be able to get a 172 rear axel from one of these breakers:
