Rear Discs, stupid idea?

Am needing some new rear discs and was just wondering if anyone had any experiance or advice of buying discs and bearings seperatly.

Were the bearings easy to press. Im pretty sure we have a press at uni that i can use, but i have never pressed bearings before.

Also did they last or is it false economy?

Its a 172 cup so no abs ring id that makes any difference?

Was thinking these discs:

and there bearings:

I will shop around but these just give you an idea of what i mean!!

Just buy em from Renault, not worth the hassle IMO for the sake of a few £s

Do you think it will be a lot of hassle? It will be nearly half the price doing this ^^. Have you tried pressing the bearings, cos like i said I haven't but i can't imagine its to difficult?

i have the ktec rear discs and come with abs rings and bearing already

Which ones, the Renault ones are like £130ish i think? Guess i would get cliosport discount on that tho.

Can get genuine rear discs for £90 if you look in the traders section.

If you don't need the abs rings (which you don't) and you have access to a press and someone who knows what they're doing then I can't see a problem in saving yourself £20/30. If it were a FF then it'd be a false economy imo.

Yeah, i am pretty sure the technicians at uni could do it for me, they are pretty cool with stuff like that. I just spoke to a trader on here and they said that they would worry bout the quality of the bearings at that price. More expensive bearing = less point in doing it!

i paid £130 for genuine discs and pads (with abs rings and bearings). They are a doddle to do yourself if you use the guide on here.

Thats not bad, think im going to get some from NW performance, £90 for OE ones and then some super cheap pads from somewhere. Seems like the best option.

Have fitted rear pads before and I guess the discs are pretty easy too.

Then all I have to do is stop the exhaust blowing and hopefully it will pass its MOT... hopefully!

Cheers for all your help and input everyone!

Ferodo pads can be had for about 15 sheets from halfrauds. Cheap and cheerful.

Yeah, I think that's what is on there at the mo. I can't remember what I bought in the end! They were new a few months ago, but even then the discs were shagged. Didn't have the money at the time so just waked new pads on as they were almost dead. But MOT time and I know they won't pass, so new discs and while the wheels are off may as well put new pads on. SORTED:approve:

Info from my friend. Front wheel bearing from Renault 5 is bolt on iirc. He bought it for his Clio 105 dCi. It was funny when seller told him that he doesnt have rear discs but drums if he owns dCi. Oh well... :rasp:
