Rear suspension

Car  Clio 172
Hello Chaps,

Beginning of the week my car developed a lovely banging noise going over bumps in the road coming from the R/O/S of the car.

It sounds like the shock is worn and is bottoming out, is this a common fault on them to go through shocks? Or could it be something else?

Does anyone know what I'm likely to pay for a rear shock from Renault?

Cheers
Alex

whats the mileage on the car / shocks?

from renault there about £50 each (replace in pairs) but you ca also get them from ktec, pete@auto nation etc for a better price. genuine renault aswell.

jack the car up and check if theres any oil leaking from the shock. good indication if it is the shock. otherwise, check everything else on that corner. wheel bearing etc

I would assume the shocks are original and the car has done 62k on a 53plate.

My plan this weekend was to get it on the ramp and see if it was leaking, I just thought I'd ask to see if it were common or it maybe another reason.

Thanks for the info regarding pricing, I'll speak to k-tec or that other fella about sorting out shocks if it's gone.

Thanks for your help.

no problem. mines on 74k now and the shocks have been nakered for a while. ride quality is shocking so ive got a new set of dampers to go on all round. i didnt have any knocks though which is the only reason i think i'd be checking other things first.

leaking rear shocks is a common issue on the clios. there's a picture in a thread where someone has just fitted a yozza exhaust, that will show you how bad a leaking shock can get.
