Rear view mirror came off!

I managed to knock my rear view mirror off the other day. Tried to put it back on and cracked my windscreen!

Any tips on how to put it back on without cracking the windscreen? 04 - 182

Heard people crack them when taking them off, but this?

A pack of sticky pads from Halfords would have sorted the problem,
rather than trying to smash it back into place. lol
