Recommend me a polish and wax

I have a titanium 182 and am just starting to run out of my meguiars products.

I am not really into cleaning my car but found that I quite enjoyed doing it yesterday. The results were good I used gold class shampoo then clearcoat paste wax on paint and quickwax on glass and lights etc. (not sure if this is the correct thing to use!? it seemed to work OK.)

I think I will buy the shampoo again but what would people recommend as the next step up from what I have been using after the initial wash. Also what would be the benefits of using more expensive products?

What is the best thing to use on the black plastic trim?

Thanks for any info.

i found that 'trim gel' off carwashnwax works really well on the black plastics. not sure on recommending products for others, but ive been really happy with p21s so would recommend that as a wax. was also happy with vanilla moose hand glaze.

Main downside to the wax your using now is the durability is very poor. Just stepping up to a different wax alone wont gain you much in looks wise as the main bulk of looks is created by the prep work before hand. A good polish is my main advise.

On Silver I would use Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss Protection and top it with a nice carnuba wax such as P21s.

Textured Black Trim - Autoglym Bumper care, make sure you buff it well after 10 mins when applied and it works a treat.

Smooth Plastics - Einszett Vinyl Care

At the weekend I used Gold Class, Clay, SRP x 2, EGP x 1 and P21s x 2 (leaving 24 hours after applying and removing the first coat) on a blue car and it really does look something special.

I'm chuffed with the result, so can thoroughly recommend P21s. Easy to apply and remove as well which I was surprised with. More so than Meg #16 which is what I've used on other cars.

do you leave your car outside over night or in a garage? Cos i have to leave mine in the street, so i don't leave the wax on for very long.

I don't leave the wax on for 24 hours, it stays on until the P21s just begins to haze over, but doesn't dry 100%. Then I remove it and leave it 24 hours to cure.

Took about half an hour to dry to a reasonable haze over the weekend.

oh right, i've been using mag tec wax, doing one panel, then another and then going back to the last one to buff. Would i get better results if i left it longer?

Different waxes, different drying times and instructions. The above is just how I was able to do a car with P21s and is only a guide.

As above depends on the product.

Waxes - P21s for example is a panel at a time and remove starght away will wet, where as Megs 16 can be applied to the whole car and then removed, others such as some of the Zymols need to sit on the panel for about a min, some Swisswax's 10 mins. Always read the individual label.

The same for sealants - the EGP comes of much easier the longer you leave it for. Needs at least 45-60 mins, but comes off easier still after a few hours as long as left in the shade. Other sealants can be applied to the whold car and then buffed off, where as some can be used a panel at a time and then removed if so desired.

Unfortunatley Autoglym dont sell any Carnuba Waxes though!

Some of there range is good, other bits are poo.

Thanks for the replys.

Products arrived yesterday.

Gold class
SRP
EGP
P21S
Rubber care.

I finish early tommorrow so will have a go with them. Can anyone do me an application guide for the above and can I do it in an afternoon?

Thanks
Mark

Thinner the better on the EGP and leave it long enough to cure before removal 60 mins and do not apply in bright direct sun.

You could do the SRP, EGP and P21s in an afternoon - BUT you are better building up a few layers of EGP before using the Wax. I would suggest washing applying the SRP and a layer of EGP tommorrow. The following week wash and EGP, then the week after that wash and P21s.

OK.

What are the SRP and EGP actually doing?

SRP is a mild paint cleaner/polish, will clean up the paint nicely for EGP to bond to properly for deecny durable protection. The mild polishes in it will also remove and minor marks leaving a nice gloss.

The EGP is a durable paint sealant, and will protect the paint from the elements and look in the shine from the SRP.

Makes sense.

So you have polished it and sealed it. Why do you need to wax it?

Selants despite providing long lasting protection much better than a wax can in most cases however lack the overall looks a decent carnuba wax will give.

Applying a wax over the sealant should add a richer warmer look than the sealant alone will give

2 -3 coats of EGP should be good for 3 odd months.

Yeah just wash and wax.or quick detail to maintain the finish after.

Finally got round to doing the SRP EGP application this weekend very impressed with the results. Thanks for the suggestions.
