Now i can either get the rears done the same as these havent been done yet, which will piss me off, or pay to get them redone, which will properly piss me f**cking right off.

if you told them anthracite then thats what colour they should be done in .. not your fault they cocked up tell then you want em re doing and get thats backs done to

  Clio 172
you shouldnt have fitted them if you knew they were the wrong colour. id have flat refused to take them home till they were the right colour!

Your right of course, but Ive probably left it too late now, got these done before christmas and they've been sitting in the garage till today, Ive just got 2 T1rs fitted so ive stumped myself really.

dont bother power coating mate. just take them down to a decent body shop and get them resprayed. having left it for 3 months i dont see much point in going back to speak to the same body shop. just avoid them in the future

  Lionel Richie
lol, quite like the sound of that.

can anyone recommend someone in south Yorkshire to sort this mess out?
Going to get them re-sprayed, to hell with powder coating.

powdercoating is better, but go to an actual wheel refurber rather than joe bloggs "we charge 50p per wheel" generic powdercoater

the wheelspecialist have branches nationwide and are good

  ibiza cupra
yeah youve left it a bit late bud lol. why is it taking so long for them to do the rears if the fronts were done before x mas?

That'll teach you for trying to ruin a set of Cup Turini's by spraying them a colour which just makes them look dirty! lol.

Sorry, only joking, I just think they look much better in Silver.

I take it it was a very cheap job??? I wouldn't of taken them if you wasn't in a rush to put them back on the car... but personally I would of gone in with either a picture / colour strip of the colour I wanted.

Lol, your right tho, i wanted them to hide the brake dust.

Re: Refurb gone wrong. UPDATE.

Update: The debacle continues

Having being burnt the first time i thought id pay to get the professionals in and get the job done right. Having spent a fair chunk of money to get all four wheels refurbed, i was initially pleased with the result, however the wheels were done on Wednesday and now today (Friday) the paint is peeling, looks like the guy has used a microscopic amount of lacquer in most places and none in others. I can leterally just scrape the paint off with my nails

Im now waiting to for the guy to pick up his phone to tell him to come back and sort them out, what i dont want is for him to just patch them up as i dont trust his workmanship, i supose another coat of lacqure should be enough to seal them, but im no expert.

Ideally id like my money back.

Ah. I was just about to post in this thread not to get wheels painted as it's nowhere near as durable as powdercoating. Seems like you've found out the hard way though. Take them to a good quality wheel specialist, it may cost you more but then you know this won't happen again.

I say it a lot, but for good reason, only ever paint wheels if you can do it yourself and know it's done properly. I'd bet that with so many spokes on the Turinis hes only half-arsed prep'd in between the spokes, hence why the paint is peeling already.

Moral of the story should have got them done properly the first time and paid more if you had to!

and that's why you don't paint wheels!

well you can, if you use powder primer, and lots of good laquer. You have to be a little carefull with powdercoating wheels. they shouldn't be done too many times as it can weaken them a lot

The problem will be lack of primer or decent prep for the paint to stick/bond to. Another coat of paint wont solve that.

Moral of the story is: keep your hard earned money safely in your pocket and dont give it to chumps who dont know their own profession. As long as your wheels are still attatched to your car your good to go.

where they properly dry before he let you take them? Sometimes they can be dry to touch but the paint can still be soft. Would have expected them to be baked in the oven though but there are some cowboys out there

the brakes get the wheels hotter than the baking process Danny!

I just got my 172 stock wheels painted...prep DIY with recostruction of the lip in many points...i left them rest for a few days...then i had them painted by the local shop for 50 euros in custom dark gray...primer, 1 layer of paint all around, 2 on the outer face, laquer. After a week i brought them to the tyre shop.
For some 8 years old wheels in VERY bad shape (bent lip in a few areas, ruined spokes, all the lips ruined) i'm very pleased with the result, I hope it lasts!
I think it's better to do the preparation by yourself, it takes a lot of labour and many shops can't be bothered.

Here's mine:

You are having a 'mare. Least you havn't waited 3 months before trying to get them redone again.

he wont have used lacquer it looks like 2k paint which is just a direct colour . id just get your money back and get them re done elsewere . its no good painting over paint that is gonna flake. he may sort that bit out thats already flaking but the rest will follow in time and bring your new paint of trust me

  Clio 182 arctic
ive painted 2 of my wheels in anthracite, the 1st one still looks good but has got 1 or 2 stone chips becaue i never put enough lacquer on, the 2nd wheel has been done fo 6months plus now and is still going strong

exactly mx1...when I prepared my 1.8 wheels for the winter tyres I had to remove almost all the paint around the lip with a screwdriver because it was flaking...i "tested" all the paint with the tip of the driver to see if it made a "paper" sound, there is where you have to remove the paint. Usually it comes off leaving bare metal.

For the 172 wheels I used 400 sand paperfor the finish, it gives good grip to the primer.
