Right this has dragged on so I'll be abridge this a bit.

In September last year I agreed a price with a local powdercoaters to refurb my alloys inc. tyre removal and refitting, they did them, I paid cash and got a receipt.

Less that 2 months later the surface crazed on one so I took it back to be redone which it was eventually. Next think I notice three more have done the same thing one being the redone one so I agreed with them to do again.

It's now June and I've had nothing but excuses and just now a phone call to say I have to remove and refit the tyres myself, needless to say I lost my s**t.

Do I have a case to get my money back so I can go elsewhere? I dont trust them one bit anymore and he's stated he wont guarantee them this time

Tough one mate.

I personally would ask for my money back and don’t bother asking for them to re-done.

If they don’t pay up I think you need to cut your losses and go somewhere else and put it down to a learning curve.

Where are you from?

Herefordshire mate, not really in a position to take that kind of hit really. I'd be better off letting them try again but that goes against my thoughts

Have the tyres taken off for a tenner, get them to do it again. If they go to s**t again and they won't correct leave a negative review on all platforms.

Small companies hate that.

Oh I'm a stubborn ass alright! I've told him I want my money back, he said he'd pay me for the three that have failed to which I said it's all or nothing mate.

He wants to 'meet' me to pay up😆 I'm going to give him my bank details and until Friday next week for the money to be in my account.

I think it's fair enough him paying for the three that have failed. You only need to get those 3 redone?

I'm not so sure, I've been waiting since roughly Christmas for them to be done and hes not prepared to guarantee they wont craze once done so who's to say this fourth wont in a few months

They have a duty to provide the service that you paid for. If they stated you get a years guarantee they dont have a leg to stand on. They should remove the tyres again at their own cost.

It's nothing to do with him redoing them? Just take the money he's offered to pay you back for the three, and get them done elsewhere?

I've paid to have four wheels powdercoated, I've returned one wheel then dropped off two more which spent nearly a month without them doing them, now hes asking me to pay to have the tyres removed and refitted and balanced which was originally in the quote but hes since 'sold' his balancer.

So out of principal and because I'm not prepared to pay even more to end up at the same point I want a full refund.

Look at the mess of this, I wouldnt take the chance that the fourth wheel isn't going to do the same thing.

Horrendous. How they wont sort that just to save their reputation I don't know. Maybe they're not planning on staying open for too much longer.
I'm thinking the same thing, I'd then be out of pocket for removal and refitting of tyres and powdercoat that may do the same thing. Only one tyre place here without an hour and a half roundtrip into Hereford so they arent even cheap to get removed/refitted.

You'd know this, how do I stand legally? They've been putting me off for months, it was September when they originally did them!

Unfortunately it’s civil law so I don’t have any more knowledge than the average CPWTIA viewer. However I would say that you’re definitely in with a shout of a claim. It’s pretty simple to do as it’s all done on line now. Give it a while.

What is it with powdercoaters recently?

A mate is having issues with a place he uses, similar cracking to yours actually.

I use Rader. They have a 500k machine just to do them.
We use them at work (BMW) for all our wheels including diamond cut. Cone back better than new

I'm in Herefordshire, I've now decided on a new place to get them redone in Hereford itself if I can get my money back. The insides of the rims on mine are shocking

Got my money back today, it took me writing a full dated timeline to them to show up their total lack of hurry to sort the problem. They accused me of 'putting a chemical on them' to cause the crazing on purpose😆 why the hell would I do that!

The big question is as they failed to get remotely close to the centre cap colour when doing them do I:

A. Keep them standard turini silver

B. Go for anthracite or similar a darker silver

Having a refurb drama myself at the mo.

Second attempt by VW:

(Alloys damaged by tire fitters).

They’ve now accepted that they can’t really do them as they usually just do the faces following curbing, and mine required fully redoing.

So they’ll be sending them away to a ‘specialist’.

Dropped my wheels off tonight, I've gone for as close to standard silver as I could going by the centre caps. Much more professional company too! They had a brand new Defender in to have the wheel colour changed, they are fugly as!

I've got two of my wheels back, the colour match to the centre caps is really good and the finish excellent. So happy I dug my heels in over the total budge that had been done before.

I didn't think powder coat would need to cure but can't hurt to wait. @gally might be able to shed some light on coating freshly powder coated wheels?

Out of those options definitely C4!

Wheels look suberp BTW, well done for getting them redone.

They are, seems like a lot more metallic flake? I love a bit of extra flake pop!
