regrind or new billet

  ValverInBits
Spoke to a guy on the Kent cams stall at Race retro. Quite an interesting conversation.

He told me why 1*2 cams are so expensive. Renault don't release the blanks for the F4R. They are just not available anywhere. So the cams have to be ground from new = more expensive

Kent do a regrind for 279 ISH IIRC he said.

Was wondering (as i'm not that up on my cams) what people thought of regrinds. Obviously cams are nearly worthless without a remap.

Also, what are the main differences between stock and performance cams. Is it longer duration that the valve is open and Higher lift?

if you regrind you have the problem of taking too much material off the base circle (BCD) to achieve the desired lift and therfore you get a gap between the roller rocker and the cam, making it tappy.

you dont get this problem with a billet item

the cam duration is the 285 bit, the length of time the valve is open for. higher lift is pushing the valve open more. basically.

there is a lot more than that, but i'm not sitting here all night.

best bet is to ring a tuner and get the best one suitable to your application.
