Removing Dash

  Audi TT 225
Ok am currently following Fubars guide.

I have removed the 5 screws in step 2 (3 in vent and 2 either side).

I skipped step 1 because the rubber seal didn't come off very easily and I was wondering if it's glued on or if I'm just not pulling it hard enough?
Is this step entirely necesarry also?
Is it the soft rubber or the harder rubber or both that I'm supposed to be pulling off as they both seem to be attached to each other?

Hope someone can answer quickly as it's stopped raining for a couple of minutes :rasp:

you dont need to pull the seal off at all mate, push your finger behind the plastic trim from the top and edge closest to the windscreen and ease it towards you.

  Audi TT 225
Was just coming on to say I managed to get the cover off without the seal :p

Umm my clio isn't a sport so will the dash be any different? I say this because I've undone all the screws and pulling the dash how he said but it's barely moving. It's a basic model so doesn't have the radio screen thing on the dash, not sure if this would make a difference.

Theres £50 waiting for anyone that want's to come and remove this dash and install my tweeters lol because it's starting to get on my tits!

I take it your just removing the top half, have you taken the top cowling off the steering coloum and the 2 screws, just pull the dash towards you hard dont lift it up though because it will stick on the air bag.

  Audi TT 225
Yea all the screws removed and I'm pulling the fker as hard as I can lol. Is it clipped on somewhere or should it just slide off?

When I saw this topic I thought Dash (James) had been a naughty man and was being removed!! ;)

The coloured airbag strips seem to be getting in the way. Do these just unclip off or are they actually fixed to the airbag?

Do the A pillar covers need removing?
The airbag strips simply unclip frtom the dash.

Removed the pillar covers, gonna unclip the airbag strips and see if I get a result!

There were an extra 4 screws behind the airbags strips. 3 behind the left one and 1 behind the right. 13 screws in total.

Ok now I need a bit of electrical help :D
How the hell do I wire up crossovers? :S

I'm guessing I cut the clip off the old tweeters like I did with the door speakers. Which one is +/-?

The new tweeters are both the same colour but one has a black stripe. Which is +/-?

Can someone write me a little guide please of what wires go where in the crossover please?

The crossover box has the following 6 sockets:

Input Positive
Input Negative
Woofer Positive
Woofer Negative
Tweeter Positive
Tweeter Negative

My guess is the tweeter goes in the tweeter sockets :p
Where do I get the wires to go in the woofer and input sockets?

you should have woofers with the kit?? they go in the woofer sockets. the inputs im not sure about, unless your running them off an amp. i used Ch3 and Ch4 for my fronts, run the wires down to the front and through into the door.
Hope this helps??

I've knocked up some images of a plan and want to know if it's possible and would work?

First image shows current setup of one speaker.

Next picture shows where I propose to cut.

Third picture shows my plan to rewire from where I cut into the crossover.
From the left on the picture the 6 wires would be Input then Woofer then Tweeter on the crossover.

Is this possible? Would this work?

Thanks

Ok, i assume you know how to wire up the door speakers. Fairly simple, just make sure you know which wire is positive and which is negative.

Then disconnect the standard Tweeter and tuck the cable away somewhere. Mount the alpine tweeter and run the wire along the side of the dash to the footwell.
Locate which wires are the speaker wire (Could take a while, there are loads of wires, i found the best thing is to trace the wire from the door) and cut both wires like shown in your diagram.
then simple put all the wires in the crossover box (all in the appropriate places of course) and bobs your uncle.

You may need to extend the wire that you cut to fit in the crossover box comfortably.

Ooh so my diagram was actually do-able, cool lol I made it up :D
To extend the wire what cable do I need? Could I get some from Halfords as I'm planning on going into town soon anyway so can get some then but have no idea what I'm after.

Thanks for your help :)

Well, what you could do is cut a bit of the wire off of the tweeter wire, theres plenty of it and you wont need much.

  Audi TT 225
Well it started pissing down with rain and thunder n lightning so I've called it a day I think and hopefully better weather tomorrow!

  Audi TT 225
Well I'm carrying on with the doors closed because I'm determined to get as much done tonight as poss :p

I've just chopped the wires and currently linking it up with longer wires so I can feed into crossovers.
TBH I'm actually not sure I cut the right wires :S

Will find out soon enough anyway!

sorry about the trouble you had with the guide mate...

i wrote the guide for a Mk2 Ph1, which doesnt have the dash strips with screws behind them.

Before you put the wires into the crossover just touch the ends that you cut with the speaker terminals... if theres a noise, you cut the right ones.
I managed to cut my electric window wire when i first did it!

best way to do it is to put 1 wire in one of the terminal blocks in the door, then move the 2nd to each other one,if sound comes out you know they are the right one.

No worrys mate would never have got as far as I did without your guide, so cheers!!

An update: The fker seems to work! Woopy doo! Only thing is when I do the balance thing and test out the left and right speakers the tweeters are on opposite sides to the woofer lol :p
Am guessing I put them in the wrong crossover box..

Well it's at the point where there is thunder, lightning, rain and dark so I'm deffintly calling it a day while things are nearly perfect!

Will finish it off tomorrow putting all the trim, dash and getting the tweeters on the right side.

Thanks for all your help guys lol, deffintly wouldn't have got anywhere near this far without ya!

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
God knows how you managed that with the tweeters!
The tweeter and woofer wire is on the same side.....

  Audi TT 225
Well I didn't cut too much of the tweeter cable so the crossover boxes are next to each other near the HU. Guess I got them mixed up here, although I'm sure I checked it!
Will see tomorrow anyway when it's light!

Oh right, where have you mounted the crossover boxes then?

I was gonna mount them under the footwell in front of the door where all the wires come in.

We don't all have electrical friends on tap hence the reason I asked on a Clio ICE forum thinking it was the most sensible place to ask for help when fitting ICE in a Clio.

There was space under the dash somewhere for them, not sure where TBH but they fit :p

Switched the tweeters over into different crossover boxes and it works perfectly now :D

Where do I mount the tweeters though? They don't fit into the mount the standard ones came from? Do i cut this to fit or something?
