Removing exhaust sealent

I have just had a new back box fitted but there is exhaust sealent around the connections that looks crap any idea how I can remove it ?? It is rock hard !!

it'll flake of in a few weeks/few hundred miles mate.

as above, just leave it or you will probably make the joint leak by fiddling with it
