removing suspension question

hi guys, bit of a dumb quetion but i would like to know before i try anything.
the top mounts for the suspension have a nut and also there is an allen key fitting. what does the allen key fitting hold together. i would take a guess that the nut holds the top of the suspension to the top mount but what does the allen key fixing do. can i undo the nut, then the allen key socket or do they have to become undone together.

The alen key is the top of the stut thread and needs to be held while you turn the nut. FYI WD40 it a day before as they are tight as hell. do the same on the strut nuts.

ok, so basically it is there to stop you twisting the suspension and damaging something if the nut is a bit tight, cheers

Its so you can use a ring spanner to undo whilst you hold a Allen key to stop the strut turning so much.

They are on tight, I've heard some need there's wizzed off by an air gun at a local garage.

Mine came off with WD40 a few nights before and just used a ratchet to get the nut off.

yea, ul need a 21mm goose-neck ring spanner, i didnt have one so i heated up and bent a normal spaner to suit, even at that, it was still a b**ch to use.

Or you can grind flats on a 21mm socket, put the allen key through the middle and undo the socket with a spanner.

Make sure youve got the right sockets, I didnt have an 18mm so doing it with a 18mm spanner (check the guides for correct size) and it slowed me down a lot.

Also doing it on my own would have been 10x harder, Having my grandad there to help a little bit was so much easier.

ive already got a set of deep sockets with the flats on so no grinding required, halfords advanced ftw
