Removing wax?

  Ph2 172 Cup
OK, so last time I was cleaning the car it p1ssed it down with rain just as I was waxing. Couldn't be bothered to get wet, so I just left it. Trouble is, I now have a few areas on the car which have wax which has dried rock hard and not been buffed out. It seems pretty resistant to a straight-forward wash, so what would be the best way to strip it back to paint and start again?
-Strong cleaner?
-Clay?
-Polish?

All purpose cleaner, try ALDI, or use some polish. Clay as last resort but it shouldnt be caked on.
