Renault charges?

My headlight offside has recently gone, stripped it myself but ballast, bulb and ignitor all work fine

Took it to renault who wanted £50 to find out the problem, which was fair enough and I told them it wasnt the above parts.

They rang this afternoon to tell me that they 'think' its the wiring and it will cost £192 to find out for sure. I rang Birchdown (only didnt take it there initially for convenience sake as its an hour away) and their price is £70 plus VAT to look at the wiring.

Now ive told renault not to go ahead stripping it down. Do you think they will still charge me the £50 even though thats for diagnosis and theyve not actually diagnosed anything.

P.S. id ring them but cant get through at the moment on the phone

Depends what they've actually done but you won't find that out until you've spoken to them. What's the £192 for?

If they said they'd diagnose the problem for £50 and they haven't then I don't see why you should have to pay.

If they have quoted a £50 diagnostics fee that you have agreed to then that charge stands whether you have the repairs carried out or not. Thats the whole idea of a diagnostics fee, so their technicians aren't diagnosing your car for free for you to take it away and get it repaired elsewhere

the £192 is the fee for finding the fault as they have to trace things back apparently which takes around 2 hours.

the £50 was a diagnosis fee, and theyve not diagnosed anything as far as i know. just said 'we think its the wiring but wont know until weve spent 2 hours and you £192" i agreed to pay a fee for them to tell me what the fault was. which theyve not done.

You could get a replacement full headlight unit for less.

Revels - couldnt get through earlier.

Jesus - lights are fine its thewiring itself.

Picked it up from renault before and argued my case that theyve not actually diagnosed anything in all fairness, theyve only told me what i told them but then wanted more to look at it further. so theyve let me off with it. said one of their managers will ring me tomorrow about it.

Oh I thought you meant the wiring on the headlamp unit. Electrics are a ballache!

they can see stuff on clip there diag machine they need to check things with this and make sure its all ok
