Renault's Diagnosis on my car

Took my car for a diagnosis and they told me that I had the wrong gearbox oil in my car.

Im getting a knocking noise coming from the gearbox.

The car was bought about 6 months ago.................

Do I need a new gearbox or can I drain the oil and replace it with the proper oil?

answer they can't!

sounds like a dodgy diagnosis to me

if there's internal knocking from inside the box, it'll be knackered

maybe the previous owner knew of a problem and put some slick50 in?

As above, how can they tell the oil??

I'd ask them to explain how they reached that diagnosis, then go somewhere else for a second opinion.

unless its blatently obvious like its got atf or engine oil in it
both are quite easy to tell apart from gbox oil
then they cant
