RenaultSport Chip for Cup

Has this new chip been released yet, if so, I cant get one, I have had people from demon tweeks, ABP, and renault trying to get one for me.

If it is fitted by a renault dealer, is it warrantied?

Doesnt exist as far as anyone knows mate

Go to London Superchips for a remap £350 (get a full exhaust and viper too)

It does exist as Ive been out with the test guy at reno a few weeks ago. At the time he also had an ITG induction kit fitted. Good sound and performance but not completely convinced yet as this stuff is all bolt on with no need to RR.

Rumour has it the ECU isnt finished, and at present generates less power than std on a std 172! Most of the fabled R-Sport mods for the Cup seems to be vapour-ware right now...

I noticed that his cup seemed smoother in the power delivery than mine. But when I got back into mine it seemed faster, like the engine was pushing more power out. Hard to explain, but mine feels more responsive and pulls like a train at all rpms in all gears except for 5th at 1000rpm - takes alittle more time for revs to rise. Have swapped from SUL to Optimax, after 5 tanks fulls and the difference to me is very noticeable - mpg is 36 even after thrashing car for half an hour each day to work.

Ive also been tracking this R-Sport ECU business. R-Sport in wimbledon and one outfit in the North [?] will apparently be selected by Reno to fit the upgraded ECU which is still under test currently. I spoke to R-Sports [ex Radbourne Racing] and they reckon April before they get the go ahead from reno. They say theyre also working on Reno-approved mods on the braking system further down the pipeline. If you call them (ive lost the number, but just do a search for radbourne racing and use that number), theyll add your name to the list.

The other place to look at is an outfit in France called http://www.efjies.frwww.efjies.fr that already do a reno approved ECU upgrade, they also show a graph with before/after torque and power, although I couldnt blow it up to take a good look.

click on the renault button in the left hand choice of cars, then scroll down that page and click on the "accesoires et preparations" link. At the top, click on "moteur" ... bit tedious

take a look at the 230hp megane thread on the main board. theres another french outfit (this time just across the channel) with equally sexy stuff including a full conversion with TBs, ported head etc etc 220hp for £5k. Simon (I think) had already mentioned the link to http://www.technomap.frwww.technomap.fr . I had a look and a chat with them . downsid is they need 3 weeks, getting the car across the channel every time you need something done, etc. Unfortunately, everybody is WAY behind on 172 mods in the UK, including Hill, K-tech, BB

yes...

Not too sure about the filter though, whats the point to fit those gleaming TBs to suck in loads of hot air. Youd think that for £5k+ they would provide decent ducting from what looks like a sexy carbon fibre air box over the TB trumpets. Cant be that difficult. So, how about an expedition to Dieppe then, maybe we can negotiate a group discount ...

Arent k-tec offereing to fit TBs? You can get it all done but not at all one supplier, it comes down to how much you want it.

k-tec arent. Theyve only just sent a 172 head to janspeed for some work. TBs are not even on the radar screen. Problem in the uk is that one of the best TB manufacturers - Jenvey - havent got a manifold for the 172, as individual TBs are not the problem. The only other source I know of is Alpha Webber and they only supply through Prima, and as I said before theyre twin TBs which Im not keen on (either use a single larger TB, or do it properly with 4 individuals). Another outfit is Chadil in Belgium, and I think they also use twins. The other problem is that the mod is a bit involved, as I understand the existing "fly by wire" throttle on the cup would have to be removed and replaced by a traditional one. Id rather have everything done by one outfit who know what theyre doing vs. having my car experimented on by half a dozen garages!
