Reno gearboxes when cold

  Orange 182

Does anyone else find that when they first get into their car in the morning and drive off, the gearbox feel rough as hell? For the first few minutes, everytime I change gear, the car seems to lunge as I let the clutch out as tho it isnt running very smoothly.

My gearbox is only a few weeks old after being replaced but I dont recall the previous one (which was also new but fooked) being like this?

Cheers for any comments.

All the Renault gearboxes Ive used have been very hard to use when cold, but very keen when warmed up and always (touch wood) reliable.

When reversing, slot the lever into 1st gear before selecting reverse. Avoids crunching for some reason.

you have to wait for the oil to warm up a bit etc. when you first start up its very thick.

and itll crunch gouing into reverse usually because its a straight cut gear. like ben says go into 1st first, or wait until you have stopped moving before slotting it in.

My 182 has a gearchange lunge when cold too, but not really that bad. If you put your foot down as soon as the clutch is raised its not noticeable but when it warms up its cool (in a groovy kinda way, not in a temperature sense...) :)

Cool (in a groovy way also ;))

Yeah once warmed up its lovely, but first thing its as if its full of sand rather than oil. Ok, ok so I exaggerate but it is quite lumpy!

Glad its not just mine, thought it was going back for a thrid gearbox for a moment ;).

Thanks for the suggestions, maybe now I can reverse out of my parking bay in a morning without waking the street up with an almighty crunch.
