Reno gems

  Elise/VX220/R26

Well the 172s been into reno today. Here are the syptoms and the diagnosises)sp?) from the master technitians at reno in pontefract.

Rattle from behind ESP button - Replacing button surround

Clunck from clutch pedal when reversing - "This is normal for a clutch on a high performance vehichle" (WTF??)

Lumpy Tickover - "this is normal for a high performance engine" (WFT again!)

Clunky suspesion especially on corners - No fault found

They are starting to piss me off now. Booked it in for the ESP buttin and just told them to put the other three faults on AGAIN to look at.

Has anyone had any of the above faults so that I can give the "master technitians" some clue as to what they are doing!!

yeah thats a minor thing really although it was smooth as fook when I got the car. The suspesions the main concern as it went with a reet bang at the weekend just turning into a car park

I believe LeeM has the clunky suspension problem aswell. touch wood I havent had any of these problems.

lumpy tick over is normal.

Rattle from behind ESP button - Could be the wiring someome on the forum saiid they taped all the cables down they could see and it got rid of it.

Clunck from clutch pedal when reversing - Some sort of engine/ gearbox mounts need tightening or replacing.

Lumpy Tickover How lumpy? maybe the second cams are in place all the time (leads to a very very lumpy tickover). Have you tried one of those engine cleaning liquids you drop into the tank when you fill it up it may help (it did on my escort)

Clunky suspesion especially on corners - Theres an update I believe for this on the Renault System the suspension needs better dampers but Renault dont realy have any perfect fix.

Renault build quality is incredible poor and worst of all the dealers arnt bothered about problems. Im fed up of the problems with my Clio and the dealers well everything they cannot do anything. (worst bit is they have an award as a best dealership in the area which has me worried)

Good luck fixing the problems

there is a mod for the knocking front suspension(modification to the tops of the front shocker turrets).lumpy tickover is standard im afraid.never come across the other two faults though.

yeah, irregular idle speeds are due to instabilities in a high performance engine - theres nothing you can do about this but you can make it smoother by putting premium fuel in your car. Yeah, the reno dealers are more than happy to look at it....curing the problems is another matter - my sunroof is still crap

Yep, Ive still got my knocking suspension. They have given up and so have I. 3 attempts and no luck.

I drove y0z2as Cup at the weekend and he has the same. I also drove Pootle172s car last weekend and was able to get hers to knock also. Even though it had never done it with her driving. I guess that should tell me something about my driving.

Mine has loads of dashboard rattles, which they really dont want to risk fixing just in case they make more.

Mine has just had its 12k service (only had the car March) and its now idleing a lot smoother. But a lumpy idle is to be expected from a car like the 172. I remember my old GTi-6 was even worse when cold. I think it has something to do with high performance cams, the more they give at high revs the less drivable the car can be at low revs and also rough at idle. I know PE suggested Roamer not swap his cams as it may ruin its low rev running. NOS is a better idea apparently. :D

From the sounds of things your Clio is no different to mine jonnyboy. Ive given in and just live with its little faults. As long as it still drives as well as it does Im happy.
