replaced my steering rack bushes for solid ones....

  clio 172 phase 2
So would worn rack bushes make it impossible to align the steering wheel after a tracking ? As i have this problem i cannot get the steering wheel straight been on all sorts of geometry machines but still no joy. And there was no play anywhere :/

You need to get someone to turn the steering wheel from side to side, while you look at the rack and see if it moves.

I have done that there was some slight movement . Is ment to be solid tight ? Or some amount of play

i had new steering rack fitted yesterday(mine made a clunking sound while parking or steering low speeds,)renault said it was the inner steering housing expanding against the outer casing.i asked for new mounting bushes and new track rod ends they said a new steering rack comes with them all.(iits part exchange they keep your old rack then give a a geniuine renault recon one(i checked mine before they put it on as i wanted smi one it was brand new really(they do it to be green) it cost £316 not to bad as mounts u say are£50 and 2 track rod ends are £100 so it is worth it.steering now feels so tort and tight loads better ,even before the fault.cost about 170 to fit it,but pas pipe from rack was rusted in so they had to order new one but didnt charge anything to fit it.they have a new service manager at renault and his is a clio 182 fan and is on here he seems ok.just av sort my suspension costing me a fortune to get the car right.
