Replacing just 1 piston.

Hello!!

Since my car broke down on the highway because 1 of my valve seals came of, piston number 4 is dead.
I'm in a need of a new piston!
I think you have to replace them as a set.
But because it's just 1 piston, my question was that if it's possible to replace just 1?
They are a bit expensive.. like 180 euro's each.

there's nothing to stop you changing just 1.

And i am not looking for second hand pistons really.. Sorry mate! Thanks tho.

Proper pistons.. You mean forged? They have a compression rating of 8.5:1.
Not really needed, the ECU won't work with that.
The car is for daily use so no need for alot more BHP!

oh if its just for normal use then yeah just stick another standard one in, second hand is ok to use

Yep cylinder head off, drop oil and sump then swap the dead piston out with the block in place... Easy job.

well the other 2 I have sold work, if you want new buy new for piece of mind, but there is no problem fitting second hand with new big end bearings and rings.

Gonna look for a good second hand in holland, or a new one.
The engine is already taken apart, should be no problem for me to replace 1.

Hey Arjan, why don't you just buy one off Scotty? I doubt you're going to find a single piston for sale here in NL...
However, when you do remove the broken one what are you going to do with it?

I want one to compare measurements to a F7R piston.

There are some for sale in NL...
Tomorrow i go through all options with my mechanic and then make the descision

Lol, i've been told the crown height on a f4r piston is different to a f7r piston. I have skimmed f7r pistons on low boost now but trying to lower compression further without weakening the pistons more.

Oh, it's a budget build so thats why i am not going forged (already have a forged engine too)
