Replacing thermosta and CTS?

Does the mating face of the housing unit need a gasket when replacing?

Or do I use sealant?

The thermostat has a rubber seal around it so thats your gasket mate.

Aye, got that, but is there not one between head and housing?

No mate. Exactly as Phase1sr says. Rubber gasket on the stat provides the seal.

But the housing comes off the head??

Yep, no seal there, the o-ring on the stat provides the seal. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago.

There is a seal if you have removed the whole housing off the side of the cylinder head!! Instant gasket or similar is whats used iirc.

But if you have just removed the little bit that holds the thermostat thats bolted to the front of the housing , then the o-ring on the thermostat is enough..

I see. So I dont need to remove the whole housing. Thats cool

No mate its just the 3 bolts at the front, the stat is behind the top hose.
