Rescuing BG 182

Hi all bought another Clio after selling my 172 over a year ago. Been looking for a while but this come up cheap been stood a while advertised as head gasket gone, thought nice little project. Here are some pics of it .

Got her home and treated to a wash

Paintwork didn’t come up to bad . Just could do with a machine polish on my to do list .

Looked into the head gasket issue . Vehicle was misfiring but started ok . Carried out compression test all above 150 psi on a cold engine. Didn’t run the engine for to long as belts were overdue and aux belt was badly deteriorated . Traced the fault to a dodgy injector lucky enough had one in my garage from previous 1*2 .

Unsure how long but to be honest not bad at all it’s on jacks down my drive side skirts removed all good going to give it a good underseal before winter tho

Also got a bit done to the interior today . Was a bit damp/mouldy inside . Cleaned up better than expected forgot to take some before pics will upload the after when complete. Also found bolts missing from the front and rear seat belts , if anyone breaking or has pics / knows what bolts I need hit me up

Head gaskets never go on these so was always going to be something different. They must have taken it to a rather inexperienced garage! An injector is the best result by a mile!

The old girl got a bit of love today , fitted n/s wing just been painted as you can see in the first pic being stood in the sun destroyed the lacquer . Also gave the headlamps a polish not the best but will do. Will give them another go when she road worthy .

Proper result. As others have said. I don't think I've seen a single thread on here or have ever heard of the head gasket going on one of these.

Just an update funds are non existent at the moment holiday to pay for . So just a bit of tidy up carried out , front door trims and bullets fitted and gave the seatbelts a good clean Hopefully get the
belts done before winter and sort my garage out so can put it away for winter

Had the day off so kicked my arse into gear and dragged her out of the garage. Cam belt etc have arrived so prepping for belt change. Cleaned a few items and gave a lick of paint. Will b doing belts on Wednesday hopefully my work decides to shut end of the month

Very productive day yesterday and this morning. Replaced cam belt kit,dephasor pulley , water pump and auxbelt kit. Was al going well till I tried to remove dephasor pulley cap was tight as f#%k . Also had issues with water pump bolts rounding off. But all rewarding in the end ran vehicle up to temperature . No overheating and misfires so confirmed head gasket was never the issue .

Old belt and dephasor . Cam belt wasnt in that bad condition and unsure bout dephasor but wasn’t going to risk it. With no history

New belt and dephasor and water pump fitted

Rounded off water pump bolts . So had to remove ac compressor and bracket to get molegrips on

New water pump fitted

Was in need of the aux belt . So glad I didn’t run this for long

Spent most of the day cleaning the old girl. First off was to protect the dreaded fuel flap corrosion. So good clean off then under seal.

First time I ever clay bar a vehicle. Was surprised what a difference it was after a polish. Scrubs up well. Ignore the dent . When lock down ended will get dent man on the job

Been a while since the old girl got some attention been flat out at work. New exhaust fitted and whilst I was in that area removed heat shields , under sealed and cleaned heat shields.

took me a while to align tips not 100% but seen worst. In need of replacement bumper as previously been cut around trim inserts .

Hopefully get the brakes sorted next week then I might get to test drive it[emoji3] had it a nearly a year now and still haven’t drove it

Been a while since the Clio been out the garage. Thought best pull my finger out and get a bit done . First was to fit the new springs.

Lick of paint on the rear shocks also bit of under seal around spring mounting . Ignore the condition of axle will be removed soon and power coated . Just test for of springs for now. Hopefully have fronts done tomorrow night.

Bit more done tonight . Front shocks on and wax oiled . Seem to be getting somewhere now. Might be on the road for before winter
