REsetting trip comp on my 172

Im trying to reset my MPG or more to the point the milage next time i fill up, i aint a clue how to reset it.
please can someon be of assistance and tell me !?

press the button by the speedo in and it resets it

do i need to get the trip comp onto the mpg, milage or jst leave that as it is and press the button?

if you want to reset the trip mileage press it when thats up, if you want to reset mpg and the other stuff then press it when on one of them i.e mpg,
