retro fitting PAS to a mk1?

Hello.

My friend wants to fit power steering to his wifes car rather than going down the painful route of selling it and finding another car.

Is this possible? If so, whats needed?

Its an R plate mk1 ph2 base model.

Steering rack

PAS pipes

PAS pump set-up... So a new aux set-up to run the pump / pulley.

PAS resevior

PAS fluid

Thats about it?

He's spent a fortune on it, its like brand new. New clutch, cambelt, headgasket, 4 new tyres, new windscreen just because it wasn't 'clear enough'. He's proper anal and loves it. It would kill him to sell it and it would kill me to try and get him a new one as he's a fussy git.

if its a r reg wouldn't it be a ph3 also if it a 1.2 it'll need all the plumping and pump from a ph3 1.2 cos it alll different for the 1.2 ph3

Its the one with the rounded front lights and the brake light in the tailgate.

Actually thinking about it, yes, its a ph3!

yeah if its a 1.2 ph3 he'll need at least all the brackets, pump, pipes and filler bottle and possibly the alternator and the rack. it looked into it when i had my ph3 but quickly decided not to bother

Yep MK1 PH3..

You just need to find an equivlent model and rip all the PAS parts off it.

Not sure which one though?! I am guessing the valver / Williams wouldn't be just a bolt on job!

think the all could come with it as a option just not sure that ph1 and ph2 1.2 came with it. but ph3 1.2 definitely could have pas if it was high enough spec/optional extra

Could try using a mk1 diesel PAS pump, they are electric and would no doub tbe easier to retrofit that a mechanical.

Matteh retrofitted one to his MK1 F4R'd valver.
