Reving poorly

my cars decided she wants to start playing up -
everytime i start the car it revs upto 2000 revs, sits there for a second and then literally bounces from 800 to 1200 revs until i touch the acelorator pedal - also when i do rev the engine, it revs up to around 2000 revs and will sit there for a few seconds before very slowly slowly coming back down - and most the time when shes idleing she sits at 700rpm

anyone any ideas? new plugs and leads? oil change? resetting the ecu?

tish.

Stepper motor and potentiometer.

Or does it only happen when cold/hot?

Might be the speed sensor behind the dash.

cheers guys - ill get it checked out this week - so it likely to be something as simple as new plugs or leads?
doubt it

its in the downpipe or exhaust manifold depending on the RT model.

It reads the a/f ratio of the exhaust and corrects the engines running accordingly. If its broke and not feeding the engine info voltage then it coupd possibly be part of a problem.

the only way a cat could affect performance is if it is starting to collaspe internally.the particles can bung up the cat/exhaust.if you bang the cat(when cold of course) with your hand does it rattle?
