revving stupidly

my car has started to rev at about 3000 rpm on tick over !!! any suggestions ?

If it's a ph1 172 then it's your throttle body that sticking common fault just needs cleaning

Also it could be idle control valve

Yes it's a ph1 and gonna pull it to bits tomorrow an give it a good clean an is the idle valve the black thing on the front of the throttle body ? thanks for the advice !

MAP sensor maybe?

Nope the idle valve is located on the back of the plenum just behing the R on sport (roughly)

Well after much cleaning an putting bk together a couple off times it took another set off eyes t help me sort it out !! The edges off the butterfly had sumhow managed t get burred an a quick graze wi sand paper sorted it straight out
