Revving

  Clio 172 Phase 2
Only just got a Clio 172 phase 2. The big power only comes after 5000rpm as we all no. But how many people drive theres hard. I really want to put my boot down but get nervous incase something goeswrong. How durable are these engines ?

Cheers Carl

Aslong as its looked after, services and belts done don't see there problem, engines them selves seem pretty reliable, asking as oil an coolant levels ok an its warmed up then have some fun! It is a sports car after all ;)

I used to worry about thrashing my car. I still do. But when you think about it, if the power comes in high up the rev range then surely its designed to be revved like that.

Just regularly service it and it will be fine. :)

Yea fair 1 only just brought it. But going into ren tech to get belts and oil leak sorted then il go out and have some fun I think

I service it on a regular basis, let water get to operating temp and then give it another 10 minutes to warm oil up before I thrash it. It does see 6000 rpm on a regular basis though, the national limit sign is just so provocative.

The rev limiter is there for a reason. So long as the engine is well maintained you should be absolutely fine. Enjoy your car!!

I'm not sure i have ever driven my 172 in 4 years of ownership and not given it full beans each time I'm out in it. Only ever needed belts, dephaser, service, brakes and tyres changed I.e the usual car service items

give it hell it's designed for it, as long as its properly maintained

One of the strongest engines I've ever owned and I've had more than ten!

One ran for months with 2.5 litres of oil missing, it must of had a good coating.

3 long years of ownership and still a good twisty road sends a big grin to my face. You'll laugh at how fun they are.

He was a pleb asking if it was ok to do 110 - 140 for an hour straight on his commute. Then he posted a thread on 197.net asking why his engine blew up haha

obviously, the engines are ok for that speed, just not with a numpty at the wheel :p

HAHA what a idiot!
