ring lap times!!

as the previous thread was deleted, does anyone know how the 172/182 does time wise round the ring, i saw one overtake clarkson when he was in the deisel jag....

Its illegal and dangerous to time laps.

8.51 was the best time achieved in a Cup.

Regards lap time though its very much down to driver confidence in knowing the track and pushing the car. The ring is a very unusual track unlike any other race circuit. 172s could run between 8.30 and 11 minutes depening on driver. Also the advantages of none ABS cars are there but 172s and 182s full weight have IMO more flat stable platform.

Doesnt eddd run around that time Davy?

regards to Claire BTW. Did you try the tyre pressures? or did you go for another tyre?

/y0z

I think he got around that time.

I wouldnt think we would find many people quicker than him in a Clio either.

Not really messed about with tyres yet, thats something I still need to do!

Personally i dont think not having abs is advantagous, i would prefer to have it especially at the Ring. It only takes one lock-up to get into trouble.

Agreed steve, to hot into one of the 90 or 180 degree corners and your eating barrier around there.

As said, anywhere between 08:**and 10 minutes is about right, depending on traffic, weather, car, confidence, hooking up the sections together and a million other things.

Ok, 08:30 might be a little on the low side. But 8:45 isnt going to be the quickest lap. Anyway, it should be about enjoying the circuit and improving your driving skills, not about who can go quicker as your just begging to stack you car around there

didnt edde get 8:45 in his cup after 1000s of laps?

Eddd doesnt time himself.

The only reason that i said he did about 8:45 was because daveyboy said to me when we were at the ring last year that eddd was about 15 seconds quicker than him... 9:00 - 0:15 = 8:45

Eddd doesnt think he can go around there much quicker than he does without risking life and limb, so I would be inclined to agree too.

I can see the headlines now...

Clios written off at the ring trying for elusive 8 min 30 sec lap.

To be fair, Jon did a 9.03 with me in the car, take off the 10 sec+ weight handicap ;) and remove the traffic then 8.45 time is achievable with balls out determination.

Seconded. As his passenger for the lap I can confirm an 8.51. Whats the problem?

Do we really need to go through this again?

If we cant be sensible and discuss things like adults then, this and future topics about ring times will be removed.

I would suggest 8:45 is the limit of the RS range.

Obviously factory standard.
I agree. Although there maybe someone out there who can give it everything and get an 8.40. R rated tyres and suspension could get you down to 8.30-8.35.

8.45 is an estimated time according to the thread, if it was verified then well done as that is a good lap.

I hear Edd has done 1000 laps not cheep at 15-20 Euro a lap..!

Yep I agree Id always prefere it for safer laps however Im inclined to think for all out fast laps none ABS is better. Its not as safe though for definate for most drivers.

I live miles away, but I still have one. 60 laps breaks even.

I reckon I have already done 10 free laps this year

i did a 9.34 in my 182 cup, 4 up, and we where slowed by a bit of traffic.

that was on my 6th lap ever round there.

when i go back soon, i will be going solo, and aiming for a sub 9, which should be easy.

i did a 10.15 approx after 12 laps...

and no i wasnt timing... my mate told me afterwards as he kept it a secret... lol

I blame Jeremy Clarkson for this timing stupidity.

At the end of the day its all about fun, and the way you buy your tickets makes yo uwant to get the most out of every lap. With a Jahreskarte I always have another lap....

If you can do 8.50 after 10 laps and crash on you 50th, then the driver who has done 50 laps but only timed a lap at 9.15 is the better driver. Gradual improvement is the key.
