Roadtrip with D60 to Manchester. 3 P.L Stadiums included (Long thread)

  Porsche Boxster987S
Well myself and 2 mates decided to go for a random road trip to Manchester to visit both Utds and Citys stadium to get a chance to practice more city shots with the camera. We left Scotland around 12am and arrived around 4pm . We stopped at a services on the way down and came across an interesting car. I heard this before i seen it coming off the motorway so we headed up for a closer look. This TVR was apparently the only car in the world acoording to the owner although i cant remember the name. It certainly looked diff to any TVR ive seen.

The M6 was also missing a few midges thanks to the ST:evil:

We arrived in Manchester and spotted a mini London eye/big wheel thing and decided to jump on for some pics. (i hate heights so my mate had the camera for this:eek:)

And how the wheel looked from a ''better'' point of view:eek:

Some of the local ''cruise'' scene certainly looked better than what Glasgow has to offer:approve:

First stop after leaving the city centre was to the City Of Manchester Stadium. When we first saw it from the road our jaws dropped. It really did look incredible and up close was just insane. It is such a fantastic design. So modern , clean and VERY big. Makes Parkhead seem small in comparison:eek: It was getting dark at this point so it was out with the tripod and a mess around with the settings. Comments and critisicm welcome on all pics btw. Bare in mind it was only from this point onwards i was using the tripod.

Next up was a trip across the city without a map or sat nav to find old trafford. We noticed a few pieces of ''banter'' advertised around the city highlighting the divide between the blues and the reds. One in particular that made me LOL as it was so true was . .

''How many trophys has ManCity actually won?'' and underneath there was a reply of . . ''How many ManUtd fans are actually from Manchester?'' Not quite the hatred of Celtic and Rangers up here but the divide was obvious all the same.

Now , Old trafford . . . What can i say?? This was my first time seeing it in the metal and i was lucky enough to be there at night. Like Man Citys ground , the architecture and design of the stadium was immense. Just standing looking up at the top of the white scaffolding made the knees weak. However , unlike citys ground we all felt the ''goosebumps'' outside this one. Standing at the statues and beside the Munich clock you really did feel the MASSIVE history of the club and it did feel like we were standing outside the home of the biggest football club on the planet. It was a very ''eary'' (sp) place to be and we couldnt decide if that was down to the lighting , the statues , the munich clock or just the sheer silence of the place. A place you see week in , week out on tv with 80,000 fans screaming from the stands. Very surreal!! I tried to capture all those feelings through the camera so i hope ive done it some justice.

And finally , the last stop was in Bolton before the journey North up the M6 and we decided to visit the reebok for a few final snaps. This was also a fantastic looking stadium. Smaller then the other 2 obviously but just as striking.

And this is one of the wierdest things ive ever seen or definitly captured on the camera. Notice on this pic the white light directly above the reebok in the sky. Now before taking this shot i was looking through the lense for a fair amount of time particularly concentrating on the top half structure of the stadium. There was NO planes , stars , helicopters or beems going into the sky but somehow this showed up. I dont know if you guys can zoom in on it but we have on the cameras screen and it looks VERY strange. I dont know if something went wrong with the camera or what but it certainly gave us the shivers.

If you've got this far , thanks for reading. Really was a fantastic day and its definitly helped me with the cam.

Isn't the Tiv a tamora? So not the only one except its been butchered by putting those wheels on.

Its funny you dont hear the locals speak to highly of Manchester, but at night it is a really nice place.

  Porsche Boxster987S
didnt like the wheels either.

I thought it was a cracking city tbh. Maybe thats just because im from Glasgow

Nice pics Paul. That's a Tamora. Plenty of them around.

Must say Manchester is the only place I've been tht I didn't feel safe walking about at night.

justin , i could not agree more mate. Really did have to have your ''wits'' about you. We got some strange looks with the typical Glasgow accent but just kept the heads down cause im sure theyll not be happy with the 200,000 Rangers fans that destroyed the place. (not a dig btw) They seemed to go around in large groups and just sort of 'stared' us out when walking by:S

Best city in the world.. not that I'm biased. Really good job with the United shots.. no wait, still biased lol. :)

Really good photos Paul, not sure if the white balance is off in some of them, but you've done a good job of capturing the places you visited pal.

Love the scenery shots Paul :)
Mine always seem to darken out the foreground when I get the clouds in, or brighten out the clouds when I get the foreground in :S lol

so you went all the way to manchester to visit the car parks??

...hmmm! Manchester has a lot more to offer than that surely :)

Great set and a great trip! One thing about your night photographs, they really really are begging for a white balance adjustment. Adjust your camera WB to 2500/3000k and they will be so much better colourwise. :)

Great shots!

The City of Manchester Stadium is so imposing. I was lucky enough to play there 2 seasons back. The pitch is massive especially when compared to the pitch at the Banks' Stadium!
