Roar!!

  182 - Now Cooper S
Finally got an induction kit, depsite what people told me about panel filters being better, and opend inductions being a waste of time, i went for this on a spur of the monent thing, £26 from halfords, fitted it in the car park in about five minutes!! it sounds AMAZING and i havent noticed any power loss so im very happy, money well spent!

Mine goes well enough, with the open one on. Probably would go better with a sealed type......but hey,im with you on the Roar!

  No more clio's for me!
Heat shields are easily made matey...its when sat in traffic, lights or junctions that the heat from the engine will get in, in transit you should have no probs. A bumper cold air feed would be a good idea on that too. :)

26 quid is dirty cheap :D wonder what it would sound like on a 1.4.. lol

id sort out a cold air feed though :D

When i took the standard air box off there was already a feed coming up from under the car, and its is flowing right onto the side of the kit which is good, but yer another one would be good, and a heat shield is needed i think, ill have to look into this, maybe but a sheet of thin aliminium and craft something???

Should have left your standard box in m8, with this hot weather your engine will be losing power from that cone filter.

Yea it may sound nice but it will go no where :)

Intitled to your opinion, and you might be right, but i dont mind loosing a bit of power for the sound as long as it still drives nice, the roads arent race tracks anyway...

Thanks for the info tho mate...

  Engles Mummy
Roads aren't a race track?

Of course there a race track, be my guess and pay £200 for a few laps on a track day :)

thanks mate, it sounds alot better then it looks i assure you, once it gets to about 4k revs it sounds like a scooby or something like that. No sound clips yet, mite get my mate to video me in it though to give you an idea....Really pleased with it, had inductions on all my other cars, but none of them sounded like this, must be the raw power of a 2 litre :p

exactly, especially as i was looking at them on the internet and debating getting one. £26 pound is value, especially for halfords who are normally really expensive

What one is it then? What did you ask for when you went in?

I quite fancy trying one out for the fun of the noise, and if i think its poo, then ive only lost 26quid...

there was a glass cabnet full of kits, i got the £26 pound universal ripspeed one. It fits perfectly, no need for any of the spacers just slots on nicely, you wont be disapointed when you put your foot down mate!

All the hours & money spent Renault took developing that brilliant factory air box...and you've gone replaced it with a £26 chav box!

Dude save up for a maxogen or just buy a £30 ITG panel filter.

if your after noise you've made the right choice, i would personally get a panal filter.

if you want a heat shield to try and deflect some engine side heat then you could get the heatshield made by green for approx £10, looks good too, if your intent on keeping the cone then try get a 2nd cold feed to it as well

again your welcome to your opinion, but i would disagree that renault have spent alot of money designing the air box, its pretty basic stuff mate, and its only a clio at the end of the day, think your looking into it too much. the standard box is devolped with the enviroment and noise restrictions in mind, look at the race prep'd clios, do you think they have panel filters? just incase your not sure, they dont, they have the battery removed and have the kit right but the n's light.

not a case of saving up either, i was looking to buy a viper for 300 the day before, but it does basically the same thing as this kit.

ive always thought it strange that ktec and bbpt both sell open ik's too, considering everything thats been said about running them on 172/182, i could understand it if we were talking about LAD but were not, i think bbpt state it gives good gains, how can that be ?

For 26 notes you cant really grumble can you? Good on you for going down a different route. Probably would of got the same results as a Viper too and you've saved well over 200 quid.
I'm really starting to notice the change in performance with heat, its getting over 40 degrees now and when sitting in traffic its gone up to 45.
Bloody desert heat!!!!! lol.

loooks kool buddy... i no wat ya mean about the roar... but i have a panel filter... DEf get a old air feed on it! :D

Interesting reading. I have a K&N 57i kit fitted and was considering changing it because of the heat soak. I may go down the route of the heat shielding instead for the sake of a tenner

yer £26 is a bargain, also fitted another cold air feed yesterday to help to help the situation...got a heat shield on order. Once that is on it should be all good :)

niceone . i got the 57i filtter to the roar out way's the the extra 200 quid . :D

Wicked, yer the amount of heads u turn with a deep induction is amazing, i just think that these cars are really powerfull (for a hatchback) but the standard noise does it no justice, personally i want it to sound like it looks...panel filter just doesn't do it for me.

I would love to see on a rolling road the actual difference an open kit like the 57i kit loses in torque

I had a k&n open filter on my Pug 306 S16 , had it on the rollers and lost absolutely nothing , was still kicking out 155bhp factory standard figures and that engine bay used to get as hot as fcuk .

And before anyone asks , it was fitted by Skip Browns , the previous owners , not me .

I think there may be a little hysteria about open filters actually being bad for power which could be hyped up by filter manufacturers .

After all , if an open air filter for £26 is no better or worse than a closed air filter that costs £200 - £300 the manufacturers wouldn't like you knowing that as its in their best interests to sell their premium products at premium prices with the view to making more money .
