Rocker gasket oil leak.

Hi guys.

I was just hoping one of the specialists on here could point me in the right direction price wise.

I have a leaking rocker gasket which has now got to the point where it needs doing.

I had my belts and dephaser done by a specialist back in april and didn't mention that the rocker had a slight leak at the time as it was so little I forgot about it (totally my fault), It has now got a lot worse though so I am going to have to bite the bullet and get it done.

My usual mechanic I use said he can do it for £180 for me however I would rather not risk that with the timing issues etc once removing the cover.

Could you give me a ball park figure that I should be looking at from one of you specialists, I need to phone birchdown/ Andyrg tomorrow but thought I may aswell give myself a head start.

Thanks :)

  A special one.
The belts will need doing again.

The cam cover is held on with sealant.

Andyrg does.t work for birchdown.

As phase1sr said above its a belts off job so very least a new belt and aux belt/kit.

Imo you won't have much change from £500.

He's about the same distance from me but the opposite direction and I know his work is good so I'll be phoning them both :)

Bugger about the belts though what a ballache. Still if needs must it has to be done I guess.

Sure its not coming from the rocker cover bolts? Take one out at a time and put a blob of hi temp sealent under the head and refit.

Also check its not coming from the vvt solenoid seal.

My mechanic seemed pretty sure it was the rocker but I'm willing to check anything before diving in to the belts again, I'll go out and double check after, is there a set torque to do them back up to?

I've literally just done a partial steering refresh along with the gearbox oil today too, hence him spotting this which makes for a nice cheap month.

thanks for your input :)

Most of the time it's the bolts Paul. Happened with mine.

Take the inlet off and have a look at which ones have a bit of oil round them, take each one out and put some Loctite 5910 black sealant (halfords sell it) under the head and nip back down to 11/12Nm

I have given it a quick once over myself this morning and to me (I'm no mechanic) it doesn't seem quite as bad as I was lead to believe, it looks like as you said it could just be the bolts.

I have been in touch with Andy anyway and will be popping to see him when I know what I am doing work wise for his opinion/fix anyway.
