roof skin?

  80MPG BEEZA
is it possible to get a roof skin with no sunroof and fit it to mine to get rid of the sunroof?

how much you wreckon for the roof skin?

im looking into putting a 6 point cage and removing all the trims and roof lining, or would it be possible to get s plastic window put in aswell as the rest of the windows?

car is going to be made into a second car at xmas so dont worry about noise

i thought this maybe another option? cud i get it flush? i understand what your thinking weld a sheet in place smooth it off then spray it

  ATS CUP'd Dynamique
yeah thats what i was thinking

would probably be cheaper than a new complete roof skin which would maybe need respraying anyway

ide say get a roof skin, it will work out cheaper if the bodyshops knows what theyre doing and will look loads better.

roof skin price, i dunno, maybe £300-£400.

maybe an option to get a 2nd hand roof skin off a donor car thats been wrote off. aslong as the welds are drilled our properly and its removed carefull you could save lots of money.

welding in a plate to your current roof may seem an easier option, but the ammount of filler that would be needed, and the ammount of time to prep it all to a good standard, ide put money it will look like the ocean. ripple city.

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
maybe you could look at getting a roof skin off of a renaultsport model, they dont have sunroofs in them and I doubt they would be more expensive than a normal roof skin. It should fit on OK also?

yea gonna have to look into getting a 172 roof skin then it will be a whole piece for when i get the inside sprayed

Your roof could completely distort if a new panel was welded in place. As said above, go for a complete new roof skin.

If you pay me a nice wod of cash i'd come and do it for you.

how much is a nice wod? where does the roof skin join? im trying to work out how much work is envolved i'd love to get rid of the sunroof

im pretty sure it joins underneath the slide rails, if you look at it you can see its spot welded there.

drop tailgate off and you'll have spot welds along there, and the front screen will need to be took out as theres welds under the top lip.

its a big job whichever route you take.

i wouldnt like to replace a new roof myself, but then again i wouldnt like to weld/fill a plate that big anyway with how much the roof flexes. ide say its a near impossible job to do perfectly

i think the new roof skin is the easiest way, it just im totally stripping the interior and i think the sunroof mounts to some of the roof lining so it will be a job and a half making it all look right were no sunroof will be alot easier

btw batman, your ride is stunning, look'd gr8 among the other cars on the meguiars stand.....there were some shockers on that stand though, how did u get ur car into that area, do u drive across the track

price up a roof skin from renault, then price up a non genuine one, and then price up a second hand one.

second hand one will be cut across the a post, b post, through the rear quarter and just given to you, only problem would be drilling the welds and cutting it from the shell without doing too much damage, but you would save a few hundred quid.

yea as fm says.

Its all spot welded in. Just means drilling them out and using a hammer and chisel to remove the skin.

I wouldnt charge much less than a bodyshop would to be honest. It's not a small job.

thank you :) we went through this private road which looked like a track then went down and through 2 tunnels like what people walked through but in the car which i put my windows down and caned it through
then came up and around to the trade stand, no idea how the monster trucks got in though :S

i'll have to get a product code from reno for the roof skin then all the faf on putting in cage but should look great in the end, i really want a sequential box :dapprove:

what would you say as a rough price for installing? i'll probs save the cash till we get a second car on the road as it'll take a while to install and spray

It's hard not to butcher a roof skin up when removing it, let alone trying your best to save it so it goes on another car.

If it were me I'd just look at brand new ones, whether genuine or spurious.

Can you not just put up with a sunroof?

  80MPG BEEZA
i think im going to go brand new so it saves removing 2 really just removing from my car which damage isnt a big aspect then putting a new one straight on, then just getting it sprayed

i know i can go see reno for one where else would do one?

lol sorry that was a wink at chris, im just googling now.
