Rotary polisher wanting to do it own thing?

  BlackGold 182
my machine polisher which is the silverline, it just wants to do its own thing and spin away in it own direction.

am i pushing down to hard on the polisher? or should i let it do its own thing?

im a newbie when comes to detailing and machine polishing etc, any advice would be helpful

It should want to do it's own thing, which is arc away from you. It's when it starts to jump that there is an issue, this is called buffer hop and is a sign that either the pad is not flat against a panel and thus is catch an edge, or the pad is too dry. A spritz of pad lube (or just QD will do) solves this and helps increase the polish working time.

You need to make sure you are 100% comfortable, as the Silverline is a heavy old machine, so your arms will get tired quickly on vertical panels as you try to control it.

Best bit of advice, get a scrap panel to practice. If your having these problems you will be inflicting your own marks that you won't have the experiance to remove.

well i have been on it all this morning and i realised i think was trying to fight it last time. swirls are nearly all gone :D

Try lifting/dropping the back end of the polisher with your hand that's holding the back of the polisher.
You'll find if you lift the end, it'll want to pull one way, if you push the end down, it'll want to pull that way. Obviously only subtle movements. Practice and you'll get the feel of it and learn to control/guide it.
Quite hard to explain with text.
