Rounded torque bit (front discs)

Rounded one of them off just then trying to undo it, is my only option now is to drill it out and re-tap the thread? the other one will probably end up getting rounded off as well.

anyone know what size thread it is?

Just drill it out and leave it out.

its not needed it just helps you line it all up to out wheels on

now thats what i like to hear! i got the stud conversion so lining them up isn't a problem for me. Time to get the drill up

They're utterly useless. Snap on nearly all cars. Just had to drill a full set out on a DC2 integra and that has studs as standard. God knows why they use them

Happy days then, drill it change the disk and forget about it!

Only 1 car I've ever world on has ended up having them put back in because the rest of them have rounded.

ford dont even have them iirc they just have like a washer over one of the studs that holds the disk flat up against the hub

Next size up bit and a hammer to smash it in. You ain't alone on this one, happens all the time. They just completely s**t.

I had the same problem. Will be using an impact driver from now on. I drilled through the centre of the bolt and got a blow torch on it, luckily I had stopped short of totally rounding it off.

VW/Audi's don't either - as the wheel studs stop the disc from falling off while working on the brakes.

Its highly likely that they're only present on French cars.

typically

VX use them too, another way is just take the head of the screw, remove the disc and sometimes there is enough of the screw left sticking out, mulgrips locked on they come out easily enough, but a very s**t design those screws.

Nah they're used on Honda's too and they seize even worse than the french ones
Honda's piss me off too because they use weird bolt sizes, 7 and 9mm instead of 8 and 10mm's - drives me nuts working on them

Mk4 golfs had them..
1 bolt holding them on the hub :)

i forget what kind of bolt it was though(xxmm or torx)

With the torx on clio's I shove a t40 in them and beat it with a lump hammer to free it up :)

They fit them during the manufacturing process to hold the assemblies together to aid production. No lining up needed when fitting wheels, etc

got one off, snapped my drill bit in the process but i think i took enough of the head off to smash the disc and hopefully the head snaps off.

disc is all off now, nothing a lump hammer couldn't sort out. Drilled the heads and smashed the disc's a few times and it fell off. Job done
