2.2 bar shed.
Few of you will know me, been convinced by a couple of you to put a thread up. More for s**ts n giggles than anything else, as I know theres a few haters here
Car started of as a bogo 1.4 slow arse poverty spec 25. Did the sensible thing and got rid of the 1.4 for a full 1.8 conversion that I funded by breaking a mates 200vi. Added a full Janspeed system and some TF135 cams. Started painting bits up ready for Fast Show 08, then had a bit of an accident with a bit of wildlife...
So that left it off the road for a couple of months. Sold most of the interesting bits on it. Janspeed manifold etc went. Avos + Springs went. Essentially went back to pretty much a boggo 25.
At this point in time I was working for the worst data comms company in the world, and was getting screwed around with pay. If I had the money I do now then I'd probably be driving something interesting/RWD/Jap. But anyway, moved the car to my brothers and fixed it.
So thats probably about 4 months after it was stuffed. Bought and picked up a few more bits here and there. Subframes/mounts etc to go turb conversion. Finally leading to...
Eventually got it in its new home, much cursing was done over the subframe/steering rack but weve got it to fit in the end. Few months went by with it still not working, lack of funds once again. Fitted some Avo coilovers and new wheels...
Coilovers soon went, front didnt go low enough. Replaced them with custom Gaz ones. Weighted for the engine, different design which allows you to go lower while still keeping piston travel. Few more months went by... Picked up the rest of the ZR kit including an X Power rear diffuser... Aint fitted properly in the pics as the person who had it before me was a monkey.
Mk2 Tailgates obviously going on, else I'd end up with 2 number plate recesses, which would be a bit er... Different? Everything got sent away to be sprayed the right colour (cars getting blown over eventually) hopefully it should all turn up back at mine soon, we shall see.
Refitted my nitrous setup, wizards of nos direct port kit. Minimax controler and jets for 50bhp with a mild progression (you can hear the exhaust note change as much as you can feel the extra power tbh).
I then went to town at Merlin Motorsport and bought a few things...
Making your own FMIC setups pretty easy, just all the cutting/measureing/recuttings a b*****d!
All fits...!
Oil cooler + thermostat was then fitted, cutting braided hose is a b**ch. (People with a good eye will notice the IC's not on properly, was waiting on some reducers at the time).
Next thing to arrive was my new gearbox. Freshly rebuilt 200 miles ago from an MG ZS 180, ratios are a bit questionable but its got a decent diff in it. Brownie points for whoever can tell me what it is?
Decided the wheels had been overplayed a bit and took them off. Theyre getting painted white with a glow in the dark clearcoat over the top (white during the day, bright yellow at night). But yea, took them off and bought some OZ Superleggera's off here. ET37 is a bit off the Rover standard offset but they fit nicely.
Ghetto Camber Measurement y0.
Couple of weeks went by then these arrived...
Fitted them and ended up with...
The top mounts dont fit my coilovers spot on, so theyve gotta come back out and have the wedges that level the springs machined out as the bearings too big for them. More pain in the arse...
Bit more time went by...
and...
with this, apparently you wire it to sensors and everything works? Doubtful.
Engine had to come back out to fit my new gearbox and tidy a few things up.
and back in again...
Suspension needs to come off, strut brace needs proper fitting and the damn Omex needs wiring up. Apart from that a years work is nearly finished.
Once its all been road tested together for a few hundred miles ive got a new engine to go in. Basic spec being, standard crank with Rover M series rods and Acrilite forged pistons. GT3071R + bit of headwork, should be good for 450ish bhp. Nitrous ontop of that brings it to the limits of what the gears in the gearbox will do. Guess we shall see at the end of the day as it hasnt moved under its own power for 12 months, hoping for 6 seconds to 60 and 12 to 100. Should top the ratios out at 160ish, but I dont ever see myself going that fast in something built by brummies?
Comments + Criticism. I doubt it will interest 95% of the people here, but I only posted it up as a few of you I know were interested in seeing its progress.
