Rover Shed...

  2.2 bar shed.
Few of you will know me, been convinced by a couple of you to put a thread up. More for s**ts n giggles than anything else, as I know theres a few haters here ;)

Car started of as a bogo 1.4 slow arse poverty spec 25. Did the sensible thing and got rid of the 1.4 for a full 1.8 conversion that I funded by breaking a mates 200vi. Added a full Janspeed system and some TF135 cams. Started painting bits up ready for Fast Show 08, then had a bit of an accident with a bit of wildlife...

DSC01353.jpg

DSC01357.jpg

So that left it off the road for a couple of months. Sold most of the interesting bits on it. Janspeed manifold etc went. Avos + Springs went. Essentially went back to pretty much a boggo 25.

At this point in time I was working for the worst data comms company in the world, and was getting screwed around with pay. If I had the money I do now then I'd probably be driving something interesting/RWD/Jap. But anyway, moved the car to my brothers and fixed it.

Picture1217.jpg

So thats probably about 4 months after it was stuffed. Bought and picked up a few more bits here and there. Subframes/mounts etc to go turb conversion. Finally leading to...

1111801.jpg

Eventually got it in its new home, much cursing was done over the subframe/steering rack but weve got it to fit in the end. Few months went by with it still not working, lack of funds once again. Fitted some Avo coilovers and new wheels...

DSC01475.jpg

Coilovers soon went, front didnt go low enough. Replaced them with custom Gaz ones. Weighted for the engine, different design which allows you to go lower while still keeping piston travel. Few more months went by... Picked up the rest of the ZR kit including an X Power rear diffuser... Aint fitted properly in the pics as the person who had it before me was a monkey.

Mk2 Tailgates obviously going on, else I'd end up with 2 number plate recesses, which would be a bit er... Different? Everything got sent away to be sprayed the right colour (cars getting blown over eventually) hopefully it should all turn up back at mine soon, we shall see.

Refitted my nitrous setup, wizards of nos direct port kit. Minimax controler and jets for 50bhp with a mild progression (you can hear the exhaust note change as much as you can feel the extra power tbh).

I then went to town at Merlin Motorsport and bought a few things...

Making your own FMIC setups pretty easy, just all the cutting/measureing/recuttings a b*****d!

All fits...!

4464506491_27a3d1f59d_b.jpg

Oil cooler + thermostat was then fitted, cutting braided hose is a b**ch. (People with a good eye will notice the IC's not on properly, was waiting on some reducers at the time).

Next thing to arrive was my new gearbox. Freshly rebuilt 200 miles ago from an MG ZS 180, ratios are a bit questionable but its got a decent diff in it. Brownie points for whoever can tell me what it is? :p

Decided the wheels had been overplayed a bit and took them off. Theyre getting painted white with a glow in the dark clearcoat over the top (white during the day, bright yellow at night). But yea, took them off and bought some OZ Superleggera's off here. ET37 is a bit off the Rover standard offset but they fit nicely.

30851_10150176505290405_509225404_12090043_3412418_n.jpg

Fitted them and ended up with...

The top mounts dont fit my coilovers spot on, so theyve gotta come back out and have the wedges that level the springs machined out as the bearings too big for them. More pain in the arse...

Bit more time went by...

and...

with this, apparently you wire it to sensors and everything works? Doubtful.

Engine had to come back out to fit my new gearbox and tidy a few things up.

Suspension needs to come off, strut brace needs proper fitting and the damn Omex needs wiring up. Apart from that a years work is nearly finished.

Once its all been road tested together for a few hundred miles ive got a new engine to go in. Basic spec being, standard crank with Rover M series rods and Acrilite forged pistons. GT3071R + bit of headwork, should be good for 450ish bhp. Nitrous ontop of that brings it to the limits of what the gears in the gearbox will do. Guess we shall see at the end of the day as it hasnt moved under its own power for 12 months, hoping for 6 seconds to 60 and 12 to 100. Should top the ratios out at 160ish, but I dont ever see myself going that fast in something built by brummies?

Comments + Criticism. I doubt it will interest 95% of the people here, but I only posted it up as a few of you I know were interested in seeing its progress.

Nicely put together in a very matter of fact way.

You can just see the scraped, perma-dirty front wing of your other trusty steed trying to get in the shots - another 25 I assume? lol

Cool thread! nice to see something different, what kind of power is it running?

  Nippy white cup
Very nice m8 but I think it will be quicker than 12 secs to 100mph if you can get of the line well enough

Will be way quicker than 6 secs to 60 once you've got 450bhp mate!

Standard rover turbo is just over 6 secs!

Looks great, nice work.

I used to have a 220 gsi turbo with forged engine etc. Stupidly quick in a straight line! Can go round corners pretty well to once you sort out the suspension etc to.

Cheers,

Dave

That's Sam's BRM Tom. You finally have a proper CS account now then Sam!

Yea but I cannay get onto the best bit of the site. Road driving ego's, sorry 'stories'.

Cool thread! nice to see something different, what kind of power is it running?

The engine in it atm's just a placeholder really so I know everything works. Then its got something with more poke going in, turbo's good for 450, then nitrous ontop... f**k knows. When it goes on the rollers we shall find out.

Wow what a read. Also a job well done.

Cheers :)

Getting any poke down till 60 is a strugle, 1st and second in my tubby running 220bhp are novelty gears. I have a feeling its going to be R888's or bust.

Andy Nichols replica ;)

I've got spare boxes and shafts just like him as well ;)

Thats cool mate. Well done and fair play!

Cheers :)

Getting the power down was always an issue but once moving these can be scarily quick!

Still miss mine and of all the cars I've had I wish I still had mine tucked away somewhere!

About time you put a thread up of that old piece of MG wanna be old persons car ;)

Now go get your hair cut and get it finished for our RR day :rasp:

stealth FTW tbh

Question is, do I get the intercooler + oil cooler anodised/painted black or not...?

nice work, that will be way quicker to 100 than you think.
cant wait to hereit running.....

Hoping for low 13's/high 12's in the quarter, but most of all I've spent most of my money on suspension/handling mods. Power is nothing without control and all that b****cks. As for hearing it, heres my temp runaround rapidshed thing. 220bhpish, standard turbo. Big open cone and a full stainless system. Sounds alright...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK0oykd04YQ <--- how do you embed stuff here?

<3 you ;) How about we swap cars...?

When your foots on the carpet im pretty sure the steering wheel is there for novelty value alone...?

Nice work! What kind of power will it produce once finished?

Box is good for 550ish. Guess we'll see. The rods im using are out of the old M series engine, theyre heavier/thicker than the standard T series ones which just seem to bend at around 20psi. Theres not a 'set limit' as to what they can do, see what happens really...

Rephrase that, I need Merlin to pull my Samco's out of whatever orifice they get them from. Was told next week 2 weeks ago. Gonna give them a call tomorrow as its starting to take the piss now.

Looms built up at the connector end, with just a mass of wires at the other end. Ive got pinouts for the omex and a Rover 220/620 loom so I "should" have everything I need, but alas I somehow doubt it...

Mapping its gonna be the best bit. Ive got a base map and a wideband. The rest is guess work :p

Get 'coolers black, I'm going to. Anyway, when are you going to stop playing with the Longbridge tat and come to the Jap Side?

Project denzel Washington the rwd tractor is the most jap I'll be going for the near future unless a mint S2000 appears.

Thats the fun bit ;)

Start with fuel pouring out the exhaust an work throught to flames? ;)

Not particularly interesting update, but new rods arrived. Got them off a forum, swapped them for some parts + cash his way.

Theyre from the M series engine, circa 1980's. Should take me to the limits of the turbo. Pretty strong for what they look like :p

Nice project!where abouts in wilts are you?

Malmesbury/Minety is where you'll find me most of the time.

loving how low it is awesome, really need to get myself some coilovers but then i also want to sell my car lol

What you thinking of upgrading too? Coilovers are pretty expensive for the bubbles sadly :(

  2.2 bar shed.
they are expensive indeed,as for a new car i dont know yet undecided in what i want.

Mmm, £500 for the same Gaz ones as me. So arguably they're not 'that' expensive. But theyre certainly not as cheap ones for a Golf...

Ah right, just asked as also in wilts and do data comms

As long as your not working for LDE...

Wow! I normally hate these cars, but that's really, really nice!

Spot on.

Cheers man, much appreciated. Should start to look nicer soon once the rest of the bodyworks done and the new engines in :)

That's wicked :)
