RPM at idle? 182

  Lotus Exige, 182
Just a quick question for the experts on here:

Saturday, I took the 182 for a long drive during the day, engine was idling at between 600-800RPM.

Taken it out for, admitedly short drives the past couple of nights and it's been idling at 1,200RPM initially, reducing lumpily to about 1,000 RPM but no lower. Fair enough I've had the xenons on and its been colder and for short drives, but is this normal? I've not noticed it happen before.

The 182 is notorious for having a lumpy/dodgy idle.

When I start the car it idles at about 1200rpm and then drops down to about 700ish and is on the verge of stalling sometimes.

I really wouldn't worry to be honest.

The idle when warm should be 800rpm +/- 50 rpm . Sounds like maybe some kind of vacuum leak .

cheers for the answers. Munday, that's exactly what my car does so I'm not worried, was just asking in case it was the start of a major problem and because I hadn't noticed it before!

Have noticed this too. Okay 95% of the time but sometimes idles around the 700 mark and feels a bit dodgy!

yeah mine was the same 766 rpm when warm. Got an RS Tuner now stays at 980rpm when warm

picked my 182 up last week and noticed same problems, might still get it checked at renault coz like u said it feels like its on verge of stalling.

and when cold weather comes in i dont know how it will manage.

I could be a vacuum pipe thats loose or there could be a dodgy connection somewhere in engine bay causing it to idle at 1200 rpm.

Does your car have a remap at all ?

My car has a Grp N Remap and idles at 1200rpm.

could try to take it to renault and get it re-programed could be a softwear fault and they will have the latest version

do 172s suffer from this?

thought the engines were the same basically?

it sounds very similar to what mine does... it will idle quite lumpy but at around 800rpm and will occasionally drop and try to stall but it will usually correct itself- sometimes not though :(

My 172 Cup is quite lumpy at times. Sometimes you can feel the car actually moving sort of up and down with the idle. Mine feels like this though when its at like 1100rpm! Almost as if there is a lumpy spot on the revs. I have RSTuner by the way running the 98RON cal.

They are the same, yes. Apart from the manifold.

I really wouldn't worry fella'. Mine idles around 1100 when cold but soon drops once the oil is warm and the engine has been ticking over for a while. It's the same reason why the exhaust sounds like it's blowing some times.
