RPM stuck around 2000

hello to you all good and kind fellows,

I have a very wierd problem on my clio (2002 MK1 172). when I leave the accelerator pedal (especially when I push the pedal gently, like on trffic jam) the RPM stuck around 2000 (sometimes on 1500 also). a week ago I changed my step motor if it changes anything (the step motor was replaced because of other problem of idle RPM not stable, the problem was solved after I chenged it).
did anyone have this problem? how can I solve it?

cheers,
ELad.

Check/chaneg the throttle cable there not that good the way there routed theyc an dry up and get a bit stuck try pulling the pedal back with your foot see if it stops.

The springs return needs to be stronger realy.

i had this,if you have changed ur idle control valve mate i can guess the problem

when the revs stick,if you rev it do they drop to normal? if so then its the throttle body butterfly gettin stuck, when it idles high if you pop the bonnet and 'push the black piece on the bk of the t/b where the speedo cable joins i bet it will return to idling properly

or u need a new throttle cable lol

well, I will start with new throttle cable.
Russ, after the rev's get stuck I push the pedal and leave it fast so the rev's go up and then come back to normal. what do you recon?
thank you guys for the help.

It's down to the design of the cable. Do a search on here.

You need to uprate your return spring and it's easiest to do at the pedal, PM me if you need some more help!

They never came out the factory like this so its not a design fault as such

Lots of things can cause poor idling but the more common is the TB return spring becoming worn with age and use

guys, thank you very much for the info.
do you have pictures to show me where the return spring is sitting?
how hard will it be replacing it? should I order a new one from the dealer or should I make new one at springs shop?

if you look at your engine, see where the throttle cable attaches,it runs around a black piece that fixes on the bk of the throttle body, when the revs are stuck, simply push that black piece from the bk,and the revs will drop,if someone can google a pic of the engine bay up il explain better i cant get on google at work grrr

The car was designed to be a left hand drive car and the throttle cable has been extended to reach the right side of the car!

That is a design fault that they were lazy when they converted the car from left to right hand drive and never checked that the parts would stand the test of time.

Does the fact iv had 2 sets of door stays in 90 thousand miles mean the doors have a design fault??
Only had one spring failure on the TB at 60 thousand miles and the cars done 97 thousand now. Id personally class that as wear and tare rather than a outright design fault.

Aye but he'd only need to do it once so to eliminate other potential causes of poor idling / reving up :rasp:

ok, I have some news. I tried to push the pedal upwards when it stuck on 2000 and the rev came back normal, so does it changes your diagnostics? do I have to change my throttle cable?
I will try to get pictures under my hood ASAP.

Nope that what we expected to hear change the cable and idealy add a spring into the system to give a bit more strenght to lift the throttle pedal back so so idlining can happen correctly.
