RROD from surge protector?!

  Mk2 Golf GTI
Has anyone experienced this? I bought a surge protector from ikea yesterday and when I plugged my 360 in, it cut out then RROD'd on reboot.

MS troubleshooting said to remove the 360 from the surge protector and plug it directly into the wall. I did that and the RROD disappeared and it seems to be functioning normally now. What would cause this? It was plugged into a straight forward cheapo power strip before with no problems. Will get a better surge protector soon and see what happens.

Everything else including my PS3 worked fine!

Yes its known that surge protectors dont dont allow enougth current to the xbox on startup (they see it as a surge to restrict it). Just remove it, its not needed! Just claim from the power board if it dies from a surge (which it wont)!
