Rs 1*2 cambelt&aux belt kit prices

I don't know how fair is to bring this up but seeing the UK prices for these kits lately had me thinking..
For example a cambelt kit together with dephaser pulley and the two cylinder head end caps is 400 quid on a known website.
In my country (I am based in Bucharest, Romania) for some years (I really dont know why) the prices for OE components have dropped significantly. So I am thinking if there are some of you that are interested in getting an cambelt kit or aux belt kit at a much lower price maybe I can help somehow, we could arrange a group buy or something and ship several kits in one package to a certain area that some of you may pick.
For example I can source the kit I was talking above for 250 quid.
Have to mention that I don't own a car parts business, I can buy them locally from certain online stores (I am based In Bucharest, Romania), add some percentage to that price for my behalf and then send a package in the UK, if there is interest. Payment could be made via paypal for example.
I hope I won't cause any issues with my proposal, it's perfectly fine if no one will be into this, it was just a sudden thought seeing the price differences, that's it.
Cheers!

You can get a genuine timing belt kit, dephaser and water pump over here for a little over £200 if you know where to go

  Lots of Scrap...
5 years or 72k for cambelt, dephaser is a lifetime part so provided car is properly serviced shouldn't ever need to be done.....in theory.

however I have mine coming up for second change in my ownership, oil/filter serviced every 6k miles, and still think i'll just change it again anyway for sake of extra 90 quid on the job.

Anyone that’s bought a genuine Renault kit off eBay lately...

What’s the date stamp on the timing belt?

Just wondered how long some of these genuine belt kits have been around? I was going to get one myself.

As we know, after 5 years the rubber will implode and suck us all into a vacuum.

No date on the box with the belt in I didn't check the actual belt

I wouldn't imagine they are that old the seller has sold over 200 of them

I'm still a relative newbie here. So apologies if this is a stupid question. When you're doimg a cambelt and dephaser, do you normally change the main crank pulley? The belts and dephaser on my 172 are only 2 1/2 years about 20,000 miles old, but that big pulley looks fairly tatty.

Rubber tends to degrade with UV from light ( tyres are obviously the worst for this ),

But when it comes to timing belts it's more the constant high tensional loads and heat cycles that cause small crack in the belt which degrades the inner Aramid or Kevlar fibres, the other fail point is the bearings/tensioner these two factors are what manufacturers base there age/mileage replacement times on.

I wouldn't have any issue using a 5 year old timing belt as long at it's been stored properly

Don't normally change the damper pulley but if you think it looks knackered then swap it while you have the timing locked off

I wasn’t really thinking just 5 years. Surely Renault haven’t made a new timing belt for a 172 for a long time have they?

Without doubt the biggest failure point on a 172/182 IMO is the aux belt or associated tensioner.

I’ve never actually seen a straight snapped timing belt on any car in the last 10 years. I’ve had people contact me with “timing belt gone” and it’s either been...

1) aux belt that’s gone and broke the timing cover (and by proxy the timing belt)

2) Aux belt tensioner (see above)

3) Aircon drive pulley/clutch failure (see 1)

4) timing belt tensioner

5) snapped tensioner stud

6) poor previous install causing failure of (4/5 but not exclusively)

Biggest issue on these Clios is without doubt the risk of aux belt going causing chaos.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
^^^ yes & thats why you never go to an independent garage because all the my do is
- Use patent parts
- Aux belt only.

May as well be throwing your money into the fireplace.

Renault don't make them obviously, but yes they continue to make parts years after production ends,

I've only seen a couple of snapped belts on Renaults but most are failures as you've stated above, but none of those would be saved by a 1month old belt rather than a 5 year old belt kit

If you're having the belts done, fit one of these to help prevent aux belt failures taking out your cam belt.

For the sake of £105.
