So, by way of
1) Summarising what's been confirmed
2) Waiting for gaps to be filled in
I must admit I'm a bit unsure what I need if I only want the 98 Ron map. Or rather what I need to spend my money on after I get a 2nd hand one. Think I'm over thinking it
As per this ^^^. AFAICMO (as far as I can make out
)
*
You need an unlock code (£33) if you want to remap (regardless of 1*2, rs tuner version, or desired map.)
* You don't need an unlock code for general fault reading.
* Depending on what you what to do (ABS, airbags etc) you may need to purchase the additional module.
Then according to Thomas:
It's not about what rstuner is, it's more to do with the map.
I could use the 98Ron map that
Pat 182 (still need to give you the disc back) gave me. However I couldn't use the pops & bangs map that @
adamjcat had just brought.
@
-Danman- also bought a RSTuner and could use the 98Ron map I gave him, but couldn't use my P&B map that I had just purchased.
Basically Henk has started including the VIN (at a guess) in the map so it will only write to that car. The older maps are fine but ones purchased recently are not.
*
You can "file share" old maps regardless
*
You can't file share new maps as they are locked by (?) VIN
Still leaving slight uncertainty:
* All pops & bangs maps are "new" therefore can't be shared?
needs confirmation
* What (date of purchase of map?) counts as "old" and "new" ?
needs confirmation
But you STILL need to match the map to the ECU version, according to Chip:
As for if you can use the map, only if their car is the same revision as software as yours, so no good trying to put a ph1 map on a 182 etc.
* Where there mid-manufacture revisions?
needs confirmation
e.g. does an 04 plate 182 have the same ECU revision as a 55 plate 182 (and just for the sake of clarity this is the version of ECU hardware or software? But nothing to do with the lookup tables that constitute a standard map as these didn't change mid production, only between ph1 172, ph2 172 and ph2 182?)
Potentially (any RS tuner + unlock code + sufficiently "old" map that it doesn't lock to vin from someone friendly + map sourced from car with same ECU revision as yours) = map your car for a net £33 (40E)
Failing that (any RS tuner + unlock code + new map from fastchip.nl website so guaranteed to work) = map your car with 98ron for a net £57.80 (70E) or £66.06 (80E) for P&B
Yaya? Nay?
