Lovely example but not exactly the most sort after mk2 escort variant so the price seems a little strong TBH considering its just an old pinto under the bonnet, not like its a BDA car etc so I personally would say a better investment would be a slightly less mint RS1800 instead for the same money.

Nice! Shame you need any two door RS Ford of that vintage or earlier under 24hr armed guard these days!

I have to agree Chip the interior on that car is horrible, i had a white rs2000 BVW 501T with a black roof and interior but with the mexico bar headrests not the nets (pics coming) i also had a white rs8100 with a flat front and two blue stripes down the side MLF 501V, the xpack conversion with down draft 45 webbers are lovely, my mate had a rs mk1 bulit by janspeed and a 3.1 rs capri with a tail fin, you had to fit anti-dive kits to these cars, super oscars in the dark for back lane racing and an extra kenlow fan to stop them overheating- happy days:race:

Whilst I agree is's notg the most desireable spec, surely thecat it's a one off (as in the only one with 12,000 miles on it!) makes it worth whatever the seller wants!

You know what old fords are like, they attract mental people who will part with ANY amount of money to own one.

But is a middle of the range model with low miles worth as much as a fairly good nick bda car? I suspect it will take a while to sell and be sold for less than that tbh.
Its like trying to sell a 1.6 clio for trophy money just cause its on 12k miles, people generally would spend the same money on the trophy instead and accept it being more miles.

I think most die hard ford fans with 40 k to spend would sooner a bda one with rusty arches than that in reality. Or a totally concours Mexico and change.

It's still cool though but rs2000 are more a project car than a collectors car really so even with freaky low miles its going to be hard to find someone who can't find any other car they would sooner have for nearly 40k instead of buying that.

Have to dig some photos out. I know of a pic of a twink. Takes pride of place in my son's bedroom. It's a bit special, I'll scan it after work. Then the hunt for my ultimate Mk1 pic begins. "RS1300" originally.

Like most have said, as lovely as it is, I'd be very surprised if it sells for that price. As for it being an investment, i cant see it appreciating significantly over what he's asking for it!

I was an RS man through and through, and like most i've had/sold RS's over the years and wished i'd kept them now, but you cant realistically keep them all can you ;)

Or can you... :p

Seeing things like this I wonder if anyone has a Focus RS or similar tucked away to be brought out in 30 years time.

That has to be a lottery win buy, no one is going to spend 37k on a garage queen unless they are seriously well off?

If you won the lottery, woudlnt you sooner buy an actual decent car though? like an RS1800 instead?
If I had millions to blow I wouldnt be desperate to buy a completely middle of the road model of car, I would want the sporty one.

We've been through this Chip old boi.

Sometimes the most sought after cars aren't actually that good. They're beautiful, they're rare, heritage, history etc etc blah blah blah!

This isnt sought after though mate, its just over priced.

The mk2 escort to have is the rs1800, those are worth this money easily, but the rs2000 just isnt a car anyone into old fords especially wants.

Dont get me wrong, would still make a cool project car and its in amazing nick, but its not anyone's first choice of a mk2 escort and for that money it needs to be really or they will just buy an rs1800 instead which is one that people really want.

My Dad had a a Mk1 1300E, he then bought a pair (red and yellow) of Mk1 1600's and his last Escort was a Mk2 Mexico into which he transplanted a two litre lump from a Capri.

I only remember the yellow Mk1 (my mum rolled it when I was 3, with me in the car, trying to avoid an out of control police car chasing a perp!) and the red Mex. Man, I loved that car! At the time, you could keep your Ferrari's and Lamborghini's - the Mex was the best car EVER!

This is exactly how it looked (down to the 4x Cibie spots):

I understand that he still keeps in touch with the guy that he sold it to who's returned it to standard, restored it and travels around with it to car shows.

I remember when they were selling for HALF THAT and people were saying

"I'd be very surprised if it sells for that price ! Cant see them going up in value any more !"

I had a MINT fiesta RS turbo paid £6500 for it kept it 7 years and sold it for the same price ( still regret selling it to this day always will !) cant say that about many cars these days :D
