RSTUNER

Advice wanted who has installed both maps and what is the difference?
im currently using RON98 feb 2008 .cal i understand this is a partial map and not a full write such as a .rst map would do
just after general advice from people who have tried both

6400_2A07 RON98 groupe_N .rst
6400_2A07 RON98 feb 2008 .cal

please note only advice wanted from people who have used both maps thanks

I emailed Henk and he told me to run the rst map 1st. Start car then stop and then run the cal.

does your rev limit up when its on cam ? ie when car is up to temp, mine is limited to normal, but when on cam goes up to 7800, just wondering if the groupe_N removes the off cam untill warm part ?

  172 A Cupwork Orange™
i used 6400_2A07 RON98 feb 2008 .cal and it upped the limiter to 7800 but only when on cam, ie when the car is upto temp (oil 85deg) or something like that, what im trying to establish is does the groupe_n map allow the limit of 7800 before the car is upto temp,

  BMW M135i
No, its restricted to a lower limiter for a reason to protect the engine. You shouldn't really be caining it from cold.

  172 A Cupwork Orange™
no i just did it to test it today, as my temp looked like it was up, ie temp gauge needle just above half etc, however didin't give me the 7800 for another ten mins, so the oil must have not been upto temp i guess, so i'll revert back to my original question

whats the dif between the two maps as .cal is a partal write and .rst is a full write, however the .cal is a newer one its confusing to say the least i'll just email henk :)

is there any software on the internet where you can download a map to your own car yourself? or make one and download it?

Exactly, the temp guage is the water/coolent temp, not the oil. The oil takes longer to get up to temp.

It works off coolant temperature though, theres no oil temp sender. Its just sometimes the guage isn't the same as the exact reading the ECU gets.

Using this post to not open a new one. I tried connecting my RSTUNER today but got an error message, it says the VIN is not recognized. Had any of you had this problem? I have sent Henk and e-mail but may be someone arround here know something.

Thanks

The 1*2 ECU doesn't support vin number retrieval iirc, does it not give you the option to enter the VIN number?

No bm, it just showed and error message:

Wait and see what henk says. Did it ask you to enter the VIN number when you 1st connected it?

Yes, lets see what he says, and no, it did not prompt for a VIN, the first time I connected I got this message. One very weird thing is my car's VIN, which seems to be very different (VF1...CB06K6X6K...) to the regular ones!

A CB06 Is not a renaultsport model code iirc! What car have you got?

So what is this mate? I am confused now LOL

The VIN at my invoice is VF1CB6K6X6K546912, weird but a true RS none the less :rasp:

I see what the problem is, your VIN is not supported yet. We will send you a new RSTuner version ASAP.

Great service from Henk. Ordered mine last night and its shipped already, look forward to getting it.

Just the standard one, the only other thing the pro has got is the wideband inputs which i wouldnt use so standard was fine. For £150 odd you cant go wrong I dont think!

I'm soooo close to ordering one myself tbh. Did you go for the pro or the normal one?

I had gone for the pro, but since I was not getting the wideband then it made no sense, so switch back to regular. Though if you plan to have a wideband setup later then it will be woth it. As far as Henk told me the difference is the data you can log to further fine tune the map, I think this would be worth it if you will be doing extensive mods to the car

You need to load the .rst and then the .cal file, the .cal wont load on its own as far as I know.

The .rst is the main ECU file and the .cal is just a config file. Make sure you backup your current .rst and .cal first :D

Im running those two and they rule :)

well i can report i have used this for a week now, and im seriously happy, its not the case of you get masses and masses of extra bhp but its more the way the bhp is delivered it makes the car run smoother, even idle is now not lumpy and man oh man when the rev limiter hits 7800 sounds nice seriously worth the cash imo :)

Sorry, im going to be sounding like an idiot here - but how does this work exactly?
Im assuming it is giving you the software to access the ecu settings, and modify them by uploading pre-written replacement maps? If this is the case, can the map(s) be altered to take other modifications into account? Do the replacement maps need to be paid for seperately, or does purchase of the equipment entitle you to access a database of replacement maps?
Is this the same as the ECU 'reflash/remap' services offered by specialists such as K-Tec etc?
Sorry to be so far behind here...but this sounds interesting!

Do the replacement maps need to be paid for seperately, or does purchase of the equipment entitle you to access a database of replacement maps? Both, if you want a custom map you pay 40 or so euros, so it will be cheaper to update your map should you do new mods after the map, or you can download newer versions of the generic performance map from the site

Is this the same as the ECU 'reflash/remap' services offered by specialists such as K-Tec etc? Very much except that you upload the map yourself! Plus you can scan fault errors and test some actuators like gas pump or throtle flap

I also think you can modify the maps your self but wonder if I would be that bold, may be if I knew what I'm doing

Excellent, thanks for the straight forward answers. Having read the few threads i can find, i can see that this service has proven quite popular. Are there decent gains to be expected and is there any disadvantage to this, rather than having a specialist upload a map?
Am i right in thinking that the map will be similar to those of other specialist companys, but not necessarily the same? Ie - does anyone sell a map that provides better power gains or a better spread of torque?

Sorry for all the questions!

Dan, the maps from one tuner to another may will be different, but not by much; some will be a bit better as some can be more fine tuned but it is my feeling all are very alike, unless of course you get a custom map for specific mods you have done. I already have a map from a tuner in my country but I was not able to feel a difference, the car delivery was smoother if anything, but I see all here say they at least felt a noticeable difference after the map, I did not and from the good comments form here then I am giving this a try, plus I went for the custom map since the gasoline in my country is 95RON and not 97 or 98 as found in Europe. I aslo have inlets matched, hopefully it will feel better!!! Of course if the RSTuner happens to work in my car, if not damn, won't be able to even try it!!!!!!

I have been running the revised maps for a month now and car definitely feels better, more responsive in all gears and a better idle, highly recommended. My original ECU software was ver 8000 so i used the 8100-7803.rst and the 8100-7a03 ron98 feb08.cal file. Oh and also i had some initial teething problems but Henk was very helpful. Once you have reprogrammed your ecu the unit is still uselful for live data from the engine and looking at-clearing fault codes.

I am having a custom map from Henk but meanwhile what files should I use to try the new maps? My car's software version is 8100, so I am thinking of using the same files fleurmal used: 8100-7803.rst and 8100-7a03 ron98 feb08.cal

Can anyone tell?
